Default Floods In St. George and Water Problems

I saw on the internet pictures of the floods that St. George experienced in 2005. My wife and I are interested in moving to St. George from Maryland. How far away from the rivers should we be looking to buy our house. Are there any areas that we should stay away from if there is a future flood in the area?

Also is there any water problem in St. George? I heard that there is a problem in Nevada? Can someone please inform us of these two concerns?

Rivers in this area are notorious for flooding. Look back at the original settlers who tried to dam the Virgin River for crops. It was not a very successful venture. FEMA has updated the 100 year flood map for most locations in St. George to provide you a better idea of what to expect. It also helps to know the soil conditions, water table (e.g. Washington Fields), and drainage improvements installed when looking for a home.
