I was hoping to go running in Forest Park early in the morning, ~ 6:30 am. Is it safe at this time? Also does anyone have a map of running routes or something similar, save me discovering them myself. Thanks!

forest park is safe at that time, and any other time for what it's worth. Try googling "forest park" for a map.

Just don't be a guy whistling at two chicks running. You might get killed.

Fail. Forest Park is not safe after sundown and, if you're there after 10:00 PM (excepting events at the Muny or other venue) you'll get a ticket from the city po-po for curfew violation.

Speaking as the likely running/fitness expert of the STL Area-based people on this forum, you're fine running anytime in Forest Park during daylight hours - just ensure that your vehicle is locked/no valuables are in plain sight for potential dirtbags/theives.

It's OK to do that if you're running as well

at 6:30 a.m. it is pretty lively in FP. I wouldn't try it at 3:00 a.m., but 5:00 a.m. through to at least 10:00 p.m. should be pretty well trafficked. I found this map of the path (link below)-- it is pretty obvious from most entry points what path it is. I like to start at the corner of Lindell and Skinker, or sometimes at the History Museum. There is a gravel path for joggers and a paved path for bikers, but a lot of joggers use the paved path too. The loop is about 5.6 or 5.7 miles depending on how you meander between gravel and pavement. It's a pleasant, mildly hilly path.

I always thought it was safer to not run on the bike trails as the bikers go too fast.
Run on the crushed rock trails. More scenic and easier on the skeletal/muscular system but not the shoes I guess.
I do not look at the female runners! And if I were ever to look I would ask: where do they get those abs of steel? Not from running I think.

It's safe to run in Forest Park at that time.

There actually is a lively underground scene late at night at Forest Park. However it is long gone, hours removed from those early a.m. Joggers, and, those middle of the night people are harmless.

Smash and grab car break ins do happen every once in a while, at any time of the day. So definitely don't bring valuables if you have a car and keep stuff out of sight...common sense stuff. You shouldn't have a problem at night either but I don't recommend the after dusk jog in the park for a lone female. Most of the time nothing will happen, but not a risk worth taking.
