While I think it is neat to have an old building remodeled and everything, I have to ask, is this project really necessary? I mean, is there a real need that will now be met with the reopening of this place, a need that couldn't be serviced by The Fox or Powell Hall?

I won't be suprised if this starts happening to Government buildings soon due to money.

Also I read an article thinking Peabody's actions might be a sign they are wanting to keep their HQ downtown since they are looking for some new office space.

I was thinking with that. Isn't there starting to be a shortage of what is considered "Class-A" office space downtown?

So again, aside from remodeling a historic old building and preventing a downtown eyesore, what function will the Peabody serve that isn't already taken care of by The Fox and Powell Hall??

None. St. Louis was already pretty well served for event space and theatre venues.

Kiel is a venerable old building that is symbolic of the ebb and flow of downtown's fortunes, so it seems important to some to re-enter it into service. Whether or not you believe that's enough to justify the public subsidy it received will inform your opinion of the project's worth.

I know I will be glad to see it open and bringing new life to that corner of downtown. I do hope it won't rob other venues such as the Fox, but I don't really see how it will not.
