We still have the bones to be a very dense world class city, we just need fix the problems of a mature city and I believe the people will come.
In addition, I think and influx of 50-100k residents to the metro east would be a massive boon to realigning downtown St. Louis as the center of the region.
I agree with you on the adding 50k to the inner-ring/central corridor and adding a significant population to the metro east especially the cities that sit on the riverfront like alton, granite city, belleville and collinsville.

I think the city could easily handle 620-650k which it would give a density between 10,000-10,500 which would be ideal not to crowded and also would give the north side a much needed population boost.

I would want Irish, Italian, Hispanics, and more Asians (as in Chinese/Vietnamese etc). And quite honestly I'd want the bulk of Irish to live in and around Dogtown and make it a REAL Irish neighborhood, Italians on the Hill, and Hispanics and Asians (probably S. Grand area) to carve out their own neighborhoods that transform into Chinatowns and, umm, Little Mexicos haha. May sound close-minded to some but I love the idea if ethnic enclaves and entire neighborhoods that reflect on the residents. If you've been to Chicago, Philly, NYC, etc you know how awesome it is to be in ethnic neighborhoods where it is common to hear the language and see the customs of the immigrants. It makes for a very lively and energetic city. Also wouldn't mind more Bosnians to the Bevo area, that neighborhood has really turned around since they've come here.

Have you been? It's actually pretty big. Several Mexican restaurants, stores, grocers and everything is in Spanish.

"We should insist that if the immigrant who comes here does in good faith become an American and assimilates himself to us he shall be treated on an exact equality with every one else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed or birth-place or origin.

But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American and nothing but an American. If he tries to keep segregated with men of his own origin and separated from the rest of America, then he isn't doing his part as an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. . . We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language, for we intend to see that the crucible turns our people out as Americans, of American nationality, and not as dwellers in a polyglot boarding-house; and we have room for but one soul loyalty, and that is loyalty to the American people
."

I agree with this. It's much bigger than I imagined it, and was quite pleased with the area along Cherokee in WBP.
