On new stands now is St. Louis Magazine's annual report on local public and private schools, including their student/teacher ratios, annual student expenditures, tuition, average SAT scores, and more...

The St. Louis obsession with the "Where did you go to high school" question often leaves city transplants bewildered. The fact of the matter is, St. Louis County is incredibly unique in the way that district quality, reputation, stigma, and standards vary dramatically from zip code to zip code.

I will go so far as to say that right behind centrality, property value is not only correlated with but directly based on school district in St. Louis county.

Anyhoo, if in the market to buy a home in the county or just plain curious... look for the March issue of St. Louis mag!

Great! Thanks for sharing!

I wanted to see if they had the story available on their Web site in case anyone from outside the metro was researching schools, but it's available only in print (can't blame them for not giving it all away for free!) but their Web site says:

Quote:
Editor's Note: St. Louis Magazine's schools cover feature is currently available only in print. Please call Teresa Foss at 314-918-3030 to purchase a copy, or head to your local bookstore, grocery store, or newsstand. Thanks for your interest.

So it sounds like they can mail you a copy -- though it's a great magazine so I'd highly recommend a subscription either way!

You know, I have ordered back issues a few times from Stl Mag and they make it pretty easy. I agree though, online would be so much better?! THough none of us would buy it then...

So how do the schools match up? Any top five?

I already know how it SHOULD be...DeSmet at the top, SLUH at the bottom...and everyone else in between
