Decomposed body found at downtown St. Louis apartment

Quote:
ST. LOUIS • Police are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body found at the CityView Apartments in downtown St. Louis.
The victim was a white male and had been dead for an extended period of time, police said. The victim was found dead face down on a bedroom floor at the apartment building at 30 Plaza Square, where police responded last night at about 8:30 p.m.
Police said the decomposition has made it difficult for them to determine the victim's identity or cause of death; at first they initially thought the victim was a woman.
Homicide detectives are investigating.
The CityView apartment complex is formerly known as the Plaza Square apartments. The 13-story buildings were purchased last summer by Clayton-based Mills Properties Inc. and are set for renovation.

Well, they are emptying out the middle tower for renovations, so maybe that's how they came across a months old corpse? The previous management team let the complex go to h*ll. Occupancy had fallen way off and, from what I understand (I live next door at Blu), there were signifcant numbers of people not paying rent at all. There was a complete loss of control of administrative functions. If you are familiar with other Mills Property (the new owners) apartment complexes in the area (check their website if not), you have an idea of what the place will look like in a few years when the renovation of all three towers is complete.

Until then, basic tidying of the landscaping and cleaning of the interior spaces are the improvements Mills has done to date that I'm aware of. The location is killer, so once the buildings are brought up to contemporary tastes and standards, the complex will be quite desireable.

Angry No. Never again.

We spent one year in Cityview and were literally apartment hunting by the 4th or 5th month because I was so ready to get out of there... one or both of the elevators were constantly broken (actually the fire marshals condemned them a couple times before, including in April or May) and I got the run-around from the leasing office more than a few times. We were woken up many times by people fighting outside by the church or 7-11 in the middle of the night and it would often continue most of the night. We also got BED BUGS, which apparently 7 or 8 other apartments in the building had and they did not do any preventative spraying OR tell us it was an issue (we had them for over a month before finding out what they were, so we could've corrected it earlier; I couldn't sleep most nights.). They payed for the extermination, which they legally had to, but in all reality we had to pay to wash ALL our clothes and cloth items, buy a new couch, and buy a new bed since they weren't gone by the time we were moving out (after the 3rd treatment and they didn't help with any furniture costs). Needless to say, I was ready to get out of there. I asked time and time again for them to offer bed bug detection and be proactive about it so other apartments would find out that there was an issue and have a chance to get treated before it got bad, but they refused. They're definitely nice when you're touring, but after that, not so helpful. I'd stay far, far away.

I've never been in those apartments, but I drive past them often, and I gotta say, the 7-11 on the northwest corner of Pine and 17th must have one of the highest concentrations of homeless shoppers of any convenience store in the metro area-- it is remarkable how few non-vagrant people I see going in and out of that place.
