As explain in the title, we plan on balancing the housing and childcare prices so that we have a remaining $2000/month for everything else (food, bills, transportation, car fuel, car insurance...etc).

Do you think this is enough for cover the living expenses in st louis?

We don't expect to use the car everyday as we plan to live in CWE, where both SLU and washu (and the childcare) are walking/metro distance.

Don't include the big purchases like the car, the furniture...etc, as we already saved up ~$25000 for such needs.

Is this a sound financial plan?

Appreciate the help guys.

You'll be totally fine, unless you have expensive hobbies (worldwide travel, expensive taste in clothing, etc).

I've got a better idea, i'm going to give you great advice on your living situation, and you'll hand over a portion of that 25k to me as a payment for my services...I'll even be nice enough to split it up with the other's who've posted on this as well! Deal?

Well, for free i'll tell you that 25k for furniture means you've got "sex in the city" taste, and should be plenty fine...If you've budgeted $2,000 after all your major expenses (bills, car note, insurance, day care, housing, etc) then i'd have to believe you could honestly live in any city in the world...As long as you're able to have the additional 2k sitting in the bank every month...lol, I can only say that i WISH i was in your shoes. lol.

If you can't figure that out on your own, then I would say you are in for much bigger problems in your life.

LOL jesus no. That 25k is mainly as a backup for any emergency during our 2 year stay. We'll just use a portion for the car, furniture, deposits...etc. I'd rather have it saved till I get back to my home country.

By the way, how much does a car insurance cost per month? I don't wanna get shocked with this like with the childcare prices.

It depends on what you drive, your age, your driving record, and how you pay. Expect at least $100+/month.
