Chicagoerin, you must be pretty sensitive. I know this store is not an overwhelmingly pleasant shopping experience by most white collar folks standards, but it's not *that* bad.

I agree with everyone. Galleria is perfectly safe. I've never felt any kind of threat. The security is outstanding and the manager of the mall is right there along the main "hallway" of the mall in case you need any help.

Wustu, are either of those inns you spoke of on the same side of the street as the Galleria? I have never tried to find them but I know that main street is far too busy to try to cross on foot. At least for me it is.

The metro station is actually across the street from the main mall, but there's always a ton of people crossing at the crosswalks. It's really not too bad!

Both the Residence Inn and the Homewood Suites (and the MetroLink station) are on the east side of Brentwood Blvd, and the Galleria is on the west side. However, as aragx6 mentioned a lot of people actually do walk across Brentwood at the Galleria Parkway crosswalk, and I have personally walked across many times myself. I always follow the crossing signals when the road is busy, but you do occasionally see brave pedestrians trying to beat oncoming traffic during "do not cross" signals. I prefer to miss a train as opposed to being road kill.

I grew up in this part of St. Louis, and can assure you that it is nearly 100% crime-free.

I don't understand why we are even having this discussion. The Galleria is the premier shopping destimation in St. Louis and is located in one of St. Louis most exclusive neighborhoods. End of story.

I would feel safe walking in or around the Galleria (or the Maplewood Wal-Mart) carrying 2 clear briefcases full of money.

Sometimes it isn't safe to cross with a walk light what with drivers making turns and driving us back to the sidewalk - if there is a sidewalk. Years ago, in downtown St Louis, they had intersections where all four directions of traffic were stopped and pedestrians crossed in all directions with no traffic moving at all. I wonder if they still have that. Probably not.

Anyway, I'll take a look at the crossing. I am terribly leary of them. I was looking for a place to stay over Christmas, or maybe just go for a good dinner, but not having much luck either way.

the fact that some people in St. Louis consider it the "ghetto mall" is beyond me. It's not even close. They havent seen a ghetto mall. And people are too hard on this mall. It has all the stores you need, and it could've had more upscale stores if Plaza Frontenac weren't down the street, but that's only a 10 minute drive. People complain too much.

I recently had my first shopping success experience in several years at Galleria. Shoes that fit and are comfortable. It is a great place, better than Frontenac to my way of thinking. My only problem there is the restaurant that gives me three times what I can eat. What a waste of food.

You are right, Smtchll. Too many people live to complain.
