Default Rehabbing house in STL, have some questions about trash

I posted a week or so ago that I was in the process of buying a house in the Baden neighborhood of St. Louis and you guys gave me some good advice. I hope you can help me again:

I just closed on the property. I'm now the proud owner of my first house. So I have no idea how all this works. I have large rolls of nasty old carpet that I need to get rid of. I don't currently have trash service because, from what I understand, it's rolled into the water bill. I can't turn the water on yet because 80% of the houses plumbing fixtures (Tub, bathroom sink, kitchen sink, and water heater) are not hooked up or missing. So what can I do? I do have a water shut off in the basement, can I get the water/trash started without the fixtures in place if the valve is shut off? Is there somewhere else I can take the large items to junk them? Are there companies that rent dumpsters and come pick them up (with the contents, of course)?

I want to get all the trash out so I can see what's left to do. Thanks!

Hopefully you'll get some more experienced advice on this, but my guess is that, assuming you have other construction debris and crap to get rid of as well, you're going to need to rent a dumpster -- everyone I know who's done any significant renovating has had to do that.

A quick google search found this BBB accredited place in the St. Louis area: 2 DUMP IT | Dumpsters, Dumpster Rentals St. Louis, MO - FREE Loading Available. but I'm sure there are dozens of options.

^That is true, in the city, rehabbers cannot use the residential dumpsters for the construction trash. I would call the city of Baden to see what they have to say.

^Baden is a city neighborhood, so I'm sure he will have to get a dumpster then!

You'll need to get a permit from the City to park a dumpster in the street, but you don't need one if you can fit it in your yard. We used Crown Excel, who I think was purchased by IESI in January 2011. They were very good about dropping the roll-off dumpsters wherever we wanted them. I think we had three or four 30 (or 40?)-yard dumpsters and each was around $380 for a week. You probably won't need that much.

Also, don't forget that as a City resident you can take a truckload of garbage to either of the City's dump sites once a month for free. Be sure to bring your driver's license and a utility bill of some sort along with you. More info and rules here: Guidelines For Resident Dumping

Make SURE you read the city's guidelines about taking items to the dropoff site. There are very specific details about what materials are and are not accepted, how big a volume of stuff they accept, and how often you can do it.
I have dumped old wood there on two occasions, and I am SO glad the city offers this service. It helps keep our alleys free of larger items. Plus, it would be otherwise costly to get rid of large volumes of junk.
