Hi all! As I'm waiting to hear from a possible employment for my husband there I have been doing a lot of reading about the St. Louis area. So one thing that sticks out for me is the weather. It sounds like it's wretched! Tornado alley, hot humid summers...... I would love a point of view from someone who has lived here.

Is it really terrible? What are the good/bad times of the year? What do you hate and enjoy about your weather? Thanks for your input. By the way I live in Ohio to give you a perspective of what I'm used to, Columbus, Ohio

Yes, summers tend to be hot and humid. Winters are generally cold, but we don't get a ton of snow usually. Falls are generally glorious. Springs can be hit or miss.

I doubt it's drastically different than Columbus Ohio.

Technically, we are not in Tornado alley, but we do experience tornados here and need to prepare for them. When the warnings hit, seek shelter.

Well.. for perspective i moved out to St Louis from beautiful California last July.. And while yes- the weather is not great, i don't think it's awful either. From what my coworkers told me- this last summer was unusually hot and humid. There were 100 degree + days and the humidity was awful; but the winter so far isn't as bad as everyone has said. I guess that's global warming for you. I will say, October is beautiful in St Louis (right in time for Cardinals games!).

good luck with your decision to move!

STL is warmer than Columbus overall. Columbus is colder and cloudier in the winter and a bit cooler than STL in the summer.

It'll be different, but not that different, from Columbus. It's not like you're coming from Florida or Seattle. It's still 4 seasons. I moved here from Chicago and appreciate having less snow--which IMO is a fine trade-off for a bit hotter summer.

yeah, STL gets a lot more sunshine year round. So that's one improvement. Summers are the only downgrade, but they're not that much hotter.

Hi, I moved here from Columbus too and don't necessarily agree with the above answers. Just check the average temps, and more importantly the average humidity of Columbus and St. Louis. It's VERY different. The summers here are brutal, but we do get spring approx 3 weeks earlier. For me, the tradeoff was not worth it. This summer was so bad that we stayed in most of the summer. The mosquitos are worse too. ... I am especially prone to getting bit anywhere I am and I have never had so many bites. If you do move here, a screened in porch is a huge plus. Another thing that no one talks about is how depressing it is to lose an hour of daylight. I LOVED leaving work at 5:30 in the dead of winter in Columbus and still having daylight. Here, it gets dark around 4:30, so you often miss it. I do remember thinking Columbus was cloudy a lot, but haven't noticed more sunshine here. Good luck in your decision.

just looked, St. Louis has approx 30 more days of sunshine than CBUS, so that is a plus.

Thanks all for the info. From what you've said it's fine. The first big move we did was from Columbus, Ohio to Tucson, AZ. Now that was a difference! I will trade a hotter Summer for a milder Winter any day. I'm still excited about possibly relocating there. So far on these forums I've noticed how friendly and helpful you all are to those of us seeking info. I appreciate very much. I will post more when we find out more.
