Default Moving to St Louis from Oklahoma and have questions

Well for one I am new here... I am currently in Afghanistan and due home soon. I will be moving to St Louis to be close to family, I am looking to rent an apartment or really any place I can lay my head. I do have one problem I have a bad renters history due to a previous place screwing me right before I deployed the second time. I will have my Fiance with me she has good credit and no bad rental history. So my question is does anybody know of any nice places that will rent to me and help me. I do not want a ghetto run down place like a section 8 place of what not I feel that after over 6 years in the military and 4 deployments 1 to Iraq and 3 to Afghanistan I am due a nice place to lay my head down. I am open to any and all suggestions.

I don't think you will have much of a problem since you have someone on the lease with good rental history. Also, do you have otherwise good credit besides the bad rental history? If you do, then you won't have any problems renting anywhere. But even if you have bad credit, you shouldn't have any problems finding a place.

As for location, what kind of area do you prefer? City/suburbs/rural? St. Louis has a lot of different options, and is really affordable for a big city.

I agree that I don't think you'll have any major problems -- I feel as though many landlords (I would try to stick to private landlords over large complexes or property management companies) would be understanding of your situation, especially because of your military background. Have you rented before and had a good experience? I would definitely provide that contact information to a prospective landlord as well.

If you answer Boom's questions about what kind of place you'd like to live and even what your budget is we can offer better suggestions!

Well I would like to spend no more than a 1000 a month. I like the downtown area. ( The only area I have been to aside from Belleville where my sister lives.) I would not mind a suburb at all it might be kind of nice I would just like to have things close by. I would like to stay away from place where I would hear lot's of gun shots that may not be the best environment after these multiple deployments.

wouldn't worry to much, most of St. Louis' crime problems are associated with small swatches of town...rents in those areas would be significantly below $1000/month, but i doubt the landlords would have any issue with your shaky rental problems from the past. You should easily be able to get into a good location within the city limits, or even in the suburbs for $1000/month!

PS- Thank you for your service!

Thank you. I have recently contacted a real estate agent who is going to help me find a place to rent. She asked me what area I would like to live in, I told her I have no idea. I keep hearing about this central west end does anybody know anything about this place I am 23 and not single. Although I do enjoy a good bar and night life. I like to have things to do around me.

^The CWE is a great neighborhood that many transplants and natives alike love (do a search of this forum for some recent advice and thoughts on the area). $1,000 won't get you a deluxe apartment in the sky exactly, but should afford you something. Less expensive, but still safe and walkable, neighborhoods I would additionally consider include Tower Grove South, Soulard, or the Loop (which straddles the city/University City line.

Best of luck, and feel free to ask more questions as you have them!
