Default How about Maplewood, Shrewsbury & Glendale?

Hi! As some of you probably already know, we are househunting and I've looked at houses in University City, Olivette, Ladue & Wesbter Groves. We live in Clayton and I'm trying to exhaust all possibilities before finally deciding on where to settle down. So far, am liking the houses and ambiance in Webster Groves & some parts of U. City. I have also gotten great recommendations on U City from very helpful posters here. Yesterday a friend of mine mentioned Maplewood, Shrewsbury and Glendale as other possibilities. I have no idea at all about these places. The only encounter I have had with Maplewood is the gigantic Walmart & Sam's Club and the big empty lot where the Driver's Licensing Office is. Anyone care to share their feedback on said areas? Thanks!

All safe, easily accessible to the city, and great areas with well priced (slightly more modest than some other places you've looked) homes. Shrewsbury and Maplewood (and Richmond Heights as well) have great acess to the metro. Maplewood has an awesome walkable strip along Manchester, and Glendale (as well as Rock Hill) is a great area to look if you like the feel of WG/K-Wood but end up being a touch priced out.

If you're looking in WG or Kirkwood, Shrewsbury, Rock Hill, Warson Woods, and Glendale are all smaller municipalities that are part of the WG or Kirkwood school district. IMO, Maplewood is a little below the others due to schools.

^but IIRC, they're moving once their kid finishes high school, so schools aren't of a concern. Maplewood-Richmond Heights is, if you were wondering OP, about on par with U City schools (or even a bit better)

I like Glendale. Most of it is in Kirkwood Schools, which may not be an issue for you but it helps it hold its value. I would say it is walkable but because it is older and laid out in blocks, but not so much to amenities like shops and restaurants like you might have with certain areas of Kirkwood or Webster.

Also, the houses tend to be smaller, but I'm not sure it is less expensive than Kirkwood or Webster on a price per square foot basis. It is a very popular area due to being in Kirkwood Schools and with much of it being in Mary Queen of Peace Parish.

We have lived in glendale for a while now. It is a wonderful place to live. Everyone is friendly and neighborly. It is very much a family oriented community. As previously mentioned most of it is the Kirkwood district. It is actually slightly more expensive than much of Kirkwood in terms of the price per square foot.
