My husband is originally from Houston, and my cousin also lived there for a while. Both hated it. I've visited and wasn't keen although there are some very nice areas.

I think if you want to move, you've got to come up with a list of priorities- what is important to you in a city? For instance, for me it's:

1) Affordability
2) History, I love being surrounded by it
3) Architecture and City Design; parks, beautiful buildings (whether mid century mod or classic), and even urban decay. Just a general pleasing, eclectic aesthetic.
4) Culture, I love the theatre, art galleries, museums, etc
5) Restaurants, hole in the walls, diners, mom & pops, foreign food, etc. I'm not a chain restaurant kinda gal!
6) Interstates, they make life so much easier. Take it from someone who has lived an hour from the closest interstate for the past 4 years! It's hell!
7) People, polite, friendly, intelligent, well mannered people as a whole

Anyway, those would be my top priorities personally when selecting a city. For me, St. Louis fits all of my requirements, and I totally loved living there and can't wait to move back this year

Based on what interests you, and what your hobbies are priorities are, I think this would be a great starting off point to truly figure out where you should live. Additionally, what do you do for work, or what do you desire as a career? Sometimes finding an industry / company you want to be involved with can also give you a good idea as to where to live.

Good luck! (and $10 bucks says you'll miss the STL within a year! I sure did... but I never wanted to leave in the first place! LOL!)

I can't see any situation where I would decide that Houston looks to be a more attractive option than, but I hope it works out for you. I moved to St Louis to get out of a small town a couple hours away and have no intention of leaving.

I guess it depends on personal preference. For instance, I lived in Brisbane, Australia until I was 22. It's meant to be one of the most 'livable' cities on earth, but I honestly never saw the appeal. I have no intention of ever going back.

St. Louis was a love affair from day 1, however. So I guess it just really depends on the person

Good Luck in wherever you choose to go Msangiec

" I know a guy who has lived in San Diego, Detroit, Columbus, and prefers St Louis to all of them." ???
What??? If he prefers StL over San Diego, he must really love the meth labs in south county!
If he is from StL, I understand, it's home. Part of StL look like Detroit.
