Hello, what are some safe neighborhoods would you recommend that are fairly near this campus(within an hour) with apts under$500? I dont care if its a studio either. Thanks

an hour commute will get you anywhere in St. Louis, you don't even need to be in St. Louis and you can make it to Florissant Valley in an hour. Heck, it'd only be 30 minutes further, but I can get to Springfield, IL in an hour and a half, same for Columbia, MO.

So the biggest concern will be a safe neighborhood, and <$500/month. Look for places that are less than $500/month, and generally avoid the areas shown below. There are more "bad" areas of St. Louis, and there are even some good areas within that red area...but if you do the above, I think you'll be fine.

Great image NavyJ- did you make that? I'm glad the Riverview area wasn't redded-in. It's still close to the top of my list if I can find the right house there for the right price

As for the OP: I definitely think you could find something for $500 if you don't mind a studio. In Maryland Heights, where I used to live, $500 is about the minimum price for something but at least it would be a very safe, nice area:

A quick search on Apartments.com came up with the following:

WestPointe Maryland Heights= $500 for 1 bed/1bath Model 1A

Pear Tree St. Ann= $449 Studio

Camden Cross Creve Coeur- $518 Studio I realize this is a touch above your budget, but Creve Coeur is a great, very safe area.

I hope these help! Even though you could find something cheaper/older in the city- I can guarantee that the above apartments are in a VERY safe area if you'll be living alone and just starting out You'd be very happy in Maryland Heights / Creve Coeur

Good Luck!!!

P.S. FlynavyJ- I worked with a guy from Ferguson back in 05-08 who insisted that the area was on the decline. I noticed it's not redded-out, has it shown improvement over the last few years? Just wondering Sorry I don't mean to be off the OP's topic!
