Hello I am going to be moving to STL this summer and was hopping to get some insight on where to live. I am a single 28 year old male. I am looking for a place that will have a lot going on: bars, restaurants, events, live music, etc. I am hoping to be able to find a place to rent for around $900-1300 a month for a 1-2 bedroom. I will be working at 170 and St. Charles rock road. I would be fine with up to a 20 min drive to work. Any help would be appreciated.

The typical list: Central West End, University City Loop, Downtown Wash Ave Loft district, Soulard.

U-City Loop is closest to work and your budget will easily find you a place.

Given your commute, I'd definitely look at the Loop first.

Visit The Loop

Here's a 2BR right near the loop for only $750: 2 Bedroom near Wash U & Fontbonne U
For $1000+ you could get a 3 bedroom if you wanted to!

Padmapper.com is a great resource for finding apartments, but feel free to come back and ask any specific follow-up questions as you have them!

Soulard or University City would be my top picks. U. City would be closer to work for you, but Soulard is also a great, vibrant neighborhood.

Good luck to you and I hope you LOVE St. Louis!

The loop itself is pretty cool, but keep in mind that area gets real sketchy real fast. I'm a 27M was pretty much in your situation a month ago and ended up moving to downtown Clayton which I like a lot. There's plenty to do and it just felt a lot safer than the other places mentioned. That's also a better commute than the other places mentioned except the loop too.

Check out Washington Ave downtown. A lot of bars and restaurants and some great lofts that are within your price range. Most of the building are newly rennovated and have some great amenities. If you are interested let me know and I can let you know what building to look at. It would also be within your commute preference.

All depends on your comfort level with city living. I've lived in my fair share of city neighborhoods and wouldn't give the Loop a second thought. Clayton is a good suggestion if you're looking for a more upscale, city-lite experience.
