Default What can you do in St. Louis, first week of August?

Hi everyone! I am trying to figure out what one would be able to do in St. Louis in the first week of August (that is when I am moving there). I know it would probably be super hot and so hard to do anything outside. But is there anything a visitor should see or not miss out on? Something outside? Something inside? Any suggestions appreciated!

A few off the top of my head...

The Lantern Festival at the Missouri Botanical Gardens is amazing. Its been going on all summer, and ends August 19. It is well worth the admission price.

The Washington County fair is August 1-5.

A re-imagined Pirates of Penzance is playing at the Muny (an outdoor theater in Forest Park) through August 5, and then the season ends with the King and I running August 6-12.

The Cardinals will be in town playing the Brewers August 3-5 and then the Giants (!!!) August 6-9.

Or, you could bring bread outside, and watch it turn into light toast. 87 degrees at 7:30 am!

I absolutely second the Lantern Festival. Riverfront Times typically has a pretty good calendar of things going on.

You may want to limit your outdoor activities to the evening, when the temperature drops to the cool lower 90s. I think it's always fun to leisurely stroll around the Loop, Maryland Plaza, and Washington Avenue around that time and take in all the sights and sounds. Great people watching.

As for restaurants, Blueberry Hill is a must and the Fountain on Locust has the best ice cream I've ever had.

DH & I are house hunting in St. Louis this week and next A few things we're doing aside from House Hunting include the Lantern Festival, Pirates! at the Muny and the Meramec Caverns. We'll probably also hit up the History Museum if we have time in between looking at houses

Also- as far as restaurants go- as Dawn10am suggested I would definitely hit up the Loop and see what takes your fancy. You could also hit up the stereotypical touristy-spot (but still awfully fun) Crown Candy Kitchen for a Sandwich & old fashioned Malt

Good Luck and I hope you enjoy yourself! I hope you LOVE St. Louis!
