Is Eureka really considered the "sticks" I have been looking at a couple houses in Lake Chesterfield, which are listed as Wildwood, MO and Rockwood schools, but after Wildwood Middle they go to Eureka High School. I did not get the "sticks" impression that was implied by a previous poster?
and yes, I still am "homeless" and undecided on a house/location, with my clock tick tick ticking! St. Louis is so darn spread out!!! I am jealous reading about everyone's city living posts...ahhh to be young and single! or maybe in my case just to have an endless income. =)

It's not really "in the sticks" anymore, but it certainly used to be. All the development out there is very new, so you'll kind of have two groups of kids- the ones whose parents have lived there forever, and the ones whose parents just bought a new house out there.
I didn't know much about the schools, but they rocked their MAP tests the last two years, so there's certainly something to be said for that. Check it out: Eureka Senior High School Test Scores - Eureka, Missouri - MO

It's definitely not out in the sticks. It's a drive into the city...but you're still very much in the St. Louis metro area. Eureka is growing and it's a very desirable community with easy access on 44 into all points east.
And, lemme say, Chesterfield is AWESOME. So...you're good with either choice.

Everyone is moving to West county (Chesterfield / Ballwin / Manchester) Area. it is nice, low crime, good shopping, excellent schools.
Thats my recommendation

What kind of trash? Just curious. We might be looking there.

The thing about Oakville/Mehlville and really all of South County is that it is very white (Mehlville is 97% white- and 1% hispanic, .6% more than one race, but no measurable black population) and let's just say it's not an accident. Racism can be pretty pervasive down there.
I'm not trying to upset anybody, but it's definitely an issue.

I live in Wildwood,MO and currently renting. We are exploring with buying a house. Trying to determine if Lafayette area is better than Eureka. Please advise. Also, I have to say that houses are pretty expensive out here. Comparable to NJ area.

Hands down Lafayette is a better school than Eureka. Now don't get me wrong, Eureka is a fine school, but you asked which was better.
Look at MAP scores, ACT scores, Bright Flight scholarships, and the number of free and reduced. There's a difference.
Homes are very different - thus values.

Eureka is 5-7 minutes to Fenton. Chesterfield is 45 minutes of stop and go traffic no matter what way you try to go unless you drive to Eureka on 109 then I-44. If I was to pick and my work was in Fenton, depending on budget I would look at Eureka, Fenton, Sunset Hills, or Arnold.

i looked in all of these areas, and decided on fenton. eureka was just too far from the attractions of the city, and there was nothing there - how far is a gas station or grocery store? ballwin had lots of offer but was extremely traffic-y and wow, overpriced. (linoleum floors and formica counters for $400k was not for me). wildwood was nice, but again, for me, too far from the attractions of the city. i did not look in arnold. chesterfield was, in my opinion, also extremely overpriced. it depends on what features of an area are most important to you. for me, fenton was close to the attractions of the city, but suburban, which i wanted. close to shopping in ballwin and gravois bluffs. good school district, although i send my kids to private schools. (rockwood). good housing value in comparison to the other areas nearby.
