Smile Winnetka, IL to St. Louis, MO

Hello - we are moving from Winnetka, IL to St. Louis, MO. What suburbs are most like Winnetka? Other cities in Chicago that are like Winnetka are Kenilworth, Lake Forest and Wilmette. Very high-end communities with excellent schools. Your help would be great! I guess our price range would be $500,000 to $1 million.

You will like St. Louis just fine. It's one post from one poster. Every city in America, Chicago included(I've lived in Chicago and St. Louis, and have spent a fair share of time in all of your areas mentioned).

Ladue, Clayton, Town & Country, Huntleigh, Frontenac.

Also some parts of U.City bordering Clayton. Some parts of Creve Coeur bordering Ladue.

Also some parts of Kirkwood and Webster Groves.

Also some parts of Chesterfield and Town & Country.

I'd start with the first three, but you'll have plenty of choices based on location, type of area, style of home, etc...

Most people would start in and near Ladue and Clayton for what you are seeking.

You said your price range is 500,000 to a million, but I guess the real question is what do you expect out of that? How many bedrooms/ how updated? Things like that will greatly affect which end of that budget spectrum you end up in.

Kenilworth, Lake Forest, Winnetka, ....would be closest to Ladue, Clayton, Town & Country, Frontenac, Huntleigh, parts of the others I mentioned before, in a lot of ways. I am very familiar with this posters mentioned comparison areas.....in these areas mentioned on Chicago's North Shore burbs...many places are well over $500k-$1million and the same can be said for some of the ones I mentioned as well. Sure, you could buy that type of house for that type of money in a lot of areas in STL....but these closest resemble the ones mentioned for reference. And yes, the amount given will be somewhat low end in parts of those areas, and I assume the original poster knows that.

I live in Chicago and grew up in St. Louis. Just trying to be helpful. But yes for what you pay in Winnetka I would suspect you can get a good deal more house in St. Louis.

I used to live in Evanston and work in Northbrook, so I drove through Winnetka everyday...for looks, the closest suburb here is Webster Groves. I personally love that area so I tend to suggest it a lot to people moving in from more expensive areas, but honestly, Webster is very similar to Winnetka. Clayton is close, but with more traffic and industry. I don't think Town and Country or Ladue are similar at all, except for in price.
