Curious....
....if we are talking minutes to/from clayton before or after the I-64 shutdown. It might be a challenge when the main artery goes down for four years. I'd second Rock Hill/Brentwood, but also suggest Maplewood and University City.

I-64 is closing in 2 sections for 2 years, not 4.

I stand corrected...
...you're right. For a motorist traveling from west county to downtown, I see four years of detours ahead: Two years on the west side of I-170, then two years on the east side of I-170. Have I got that right?

No. 1 year on west side of 170, 1 year to the east. Its 2 years total, not 2 + 2.

I agree that 40 will be bad for a while, but making long-term choices like buying a house based on it just doesn't make all that much sense.

No, not buying, but definitely renting. If renting, get where it's convenient. Me personally, I'm going for an urban neighborhood that is close to work. I wouldn't want to live in Creve Coeur for anything, so I got a place to lay my head in Maplewood.

True, but the OP is looking to buy. Plus 40 will be SO nice when it's finally done.

I don't think that's what I'm doing in my post. I live in the city. But people with a family need to be realistic with their budget. Private school for several children isn't cheap.

3 miles from Clayton
I have a house on the market 3 miles from Clayton. It's the last house on a dead end street in a small town called Vinita Park. I lived there for 30 years. The other houses at our end of the street have all been occupied by the same families for over 15 years each, and one neighbor for 40 years. Stable occupants make for stable neighborhoods. If your interested, the house is 3B, 1-1/2 bath, 1400sf, full partially finished walk-out basement, dead ends next to a greenbelt, has an additional side lot, fully fenced back yard, FP, brick, attached 1 car garage with additional off street parking, fully renovated 2007, new appliances (DW, W&D, stove, fridge, microwave), all new plbg and fixtures. Its a very private, quiet house, but right up the road from shopping, close to major highways, 3 miles from Clayton, 5 miles from Wash. U, 6 miles from airport. If you care to know more, call 314-276-4028 Dawn. I'm selling cuz I'm moving to Seattle.
