True. Stange times we live in.

"Maybe, but all of the progressives I know in the South are born and bred Southerners rather than carpetbaggers. There are some real sack of **** GOP/fundie/Randian politicians in northern states, too, don't get me wrong...Bachman is a fine example of such, but as the political dynamic is completely different, those politicians are also rarer and a noticably lower proportion of officeholders and usually less influential. And countering Bachman in MN, you have Franken, Klobuchar, Ellison, etc. Who counters Mitch McConnell in KY for example? It's great that progressives exist down south, but they'd be better off moving elsewhere to bolster progressives in swing states/border states than spending 30 years trying to get the south caught up to where the rest of the country was a decade ago.

Well, "Missourah" is going to have to suck it, because there will be a lawsuit and Missouri will be forced to set up an exchange as it should. Expensive posturing on the part of good old boy outstate asshats. Every last one of our rural republicans ought to be forcibly escorted out of the legislature.

Not everyone down there is a knuckle-dragging conservative fundie. It's a lot more nuanced and dynamic than you probably realize. There are a lot of people, especially in the larger cities, who are just as sophisticated and progressive as anywhere else in the country and who are actively trying to improve the South. And, let's be honest with ourselves, the Southern cities are doing a lot more cool, progressive things than Midwestern ones right now and are generally wealthier and more dynamic. I think if you spent more time down there and actually got to know the South you wouldn't have such a strong knee-jerk reaction to any mention of it.
You probably should not lump all Conservatives into one negative category. Currently I live in the Kansas City area and I've found this region to have more ignorant, backwards, racist, anti semitic, uneducated people than any other area I've called home. And believe it or not, the worst offenders are primarily people that vote democrat. And even most of the so called Conservatives in these parts are anything but. BTW. I'm an Independent and support neither political party.

I've met more open minded people in and from the south than I have in the Kansas City area. The KC region is nothing more than a large backwater filled with people that like to "think" they are the epitome of hip. In reality, they are behaving like infantile wannabes that are desperate to find out who and what they are and as a result appear to be very insecure and cannot handle people that don't share the same sleazy lifestyle as they.

Thankfully I don't see St. Louis in this light at all and in fact, it seems quite the opposite with a population that is more secure about who and what they are and don't have to go around trying to prove to the world they are something they are not.

Explain more about Kansas City! Like, what part of KC do you live in and experience most of this?

We've been through that on the Indianapolis board. I was simply illustrating a point that MO has its share of backwards people and rednecks and that not all vote Republican.

I'm originally from Connecticut. I've lived in Kansas City, North Kansas City, Lee's Summit and recently Richmond which is a rural town to the east and now Lexington. I've had the least amount of trouble in Lexington followed by Lee's Summit.

Last year I had two cars totaled. Neither accident was my fault. The cop that drove me home from the second accident suggested that I should find another area to call home. In other words, he was telling me that there are people in these parts that don't like my presence. That being the case I am working my way out of here and will relocate by Fall.

So northern KY by Cincinnati is still in the works? I always have liked that area and have found the people to be much more friendly and hospitable compared to much of Kansas City.

Yep. So far I am having good experiences in KY. Neighbors have been helpful and welcoming and they are actually keeping an eye on my property for me. Someone threw a small rock through a window recently and we think we know who the trouble maker is. Probably won't happen again. Aside from that issue everything is looking OK. Definitely NOT having the issues I have had in the KC area. I may be moving to St. Louis for a while with one of my current employers until I can get the house ready to occupy. No question St. Louis is a better place to be than KC at least for me.
