Default Neighborhoods & towns that flooded in 1993?

Could anyone tell me WHICH city neighborhoods & towns (outside city limits) flooded in that big 500-year flood in the early '90s, in Missouri? I have only found general info online & on FEMA's website. I'm guessing people over 40 would remember where the flood waters hit between the Missouri & Mississippi rivers. I'd appreciate anyone who took the time to answer my question, thanks.

Hmmmm, searching memory. I remember the flood waters were up to the steps of the Arch in St. Louis. Parts of Spanish Lake were under water; parts of St. Charles; Earth City; the towns of Herculaneum, Festus, and Crystal City were all hard hit. There were more but I am not able to think of their names right now.

Ok, I remembered a few more towns...all these are around St. Charles, MO. South Shore totally under water. Portage Des Sioux, West Alton, Orchard Farms and Walnut. Hope this helps.

Default 1993 Flood

The Corps of Engineers completed a levee in 2004 which will protect Festus-Crystal City from future Mississippi River flooding.

The only info I know I have learned from "natives" who lived in the area at that time. I live in West County (which is about 20 minutes west of the Arch) and when people I know talk about the flood in '93, I am only familiar with the flooding of the Missouri River, although I believe the Mississippi flooded as well. One of the areas that flooded was the Chesterfield Valley. A lot of this area has been developed within the past few years. The development has been completely commercial -- part of it the Chesterfield Commons, a huge strip of shopping. Anyway -- the following articles talk about that a little bit and how they are sure that the flooding won't be a problem in that area again b/c of what they have done w/ the construction.

Hope this helps. If you are concerned about housing in these areas, I don't think you have anything to be worried about. The areas are mainly commercial -- Wal-mart, Target, Best Buy, and much much more.

Along the Mississippi, highway 79, that runs between St. Peters and Hannibal, was under water for weeks. Towns like Winfield and Elsberry were nearly cut off from the metropolitan area.

I lived in Hannibal during 1993 and the downtown was flooded for almost an entire summer.
