Hello, I'm entertaining the thought of buying a house. My budget is tight-- $125k at most-- and I'm looking for something small as it will most likely be just me (maybe my boyfriend as well). I don't plan on having kids, so I don't care much about school districts. I do want something safe, with lots of places I could walk to (easy access to public transportation would be an added bonus).

I've lived in Saint Louis all my life, and I have some neighborhoods in mind. But I wanted to get some advice, too. Many of my friends are terrified of the thought of living in the city, whereas I'm not. Some of the neighborhoods I'm most familiar with (and considering) are: Lindenwood Park, St. Louis Hills, the Hill, Dogtown, Tower Grove, CWE, Kirkwood, Webster Groves, and Maplewood. I'm open to other areas too, but I would prefer to live inside the 270 loop.

Thanks in advance!!

Southampton. Can buy 2-family flat in that neighborhood for around that price. Plus, you can defray mortgage with rental income.

You've got the right idea. You'll have more options than you'd think if you're fine with a 2 bd single family house. CWE is the only place where you would not be able to find a single family house at that price point.
