My college roommate decided to have a re-union during Memorial day at St. Louis, and desperate to find a safe hotel at reasonable cost.

I was looking at hotels around downtown, but the crime reports shows quite a lot assaults and robbery records near gateway arch, so I am assuming downtown is not that safe.

We are planning to visit the zoo, and the botanical garden, so which area should I search? Clayton, Westport or Forest Park or somewhere else?

Thanks

A lot of the hotels downtown are perfectly safe Anywhere throughout the country that is a 'touristy' area has a spike in crime due to pick pockets, etc, and in most metros there are a higher level of incidents downtown, but it doesn't make it 'unsafe', it's just that there are usually a more concentrated amount of people in the area so it spikes the stats. I used to work downtown and never had any major problems.

When you come here, will you have a car or will you be relying on public transit? Also, what is your budget? That will help me with some hotel suggestions for you.

If you are wanting to stay outside of downtown, there is a Holiday Inn, Red Roof Inn and Drury Hotel located at I-44 and Hampton Ave (hotels may have the Wilson Ave street address). This is very convenient to downtown and to Forest Park. Also several restaurants along Hampton Ave.

I can highly recommend the Hampton Inn at Forest Park. Very nice interior, free parking, but still close to everything.
