I know Collinsville isn't in MO but it is close to E. St Louis which has a pretty negative safety reputation. Does this perception or reality effect Collinsville. I will be visiting for a few days in August....

I could be wrong but I think Collinsville has a reputation for being a bedroom suburban community, quite safe and middle class. I don't know the area but I would walk around downtown Collinsville late at night, sight unseen, with almost zero trepidation.

Collinsville is very safe, especially if you're comparing it to EStL!

collinsville is fine. i lived there for a couple years in one of the worst parts of town, which they have since town down and turned it into a shopping center. i also frequented wild country (a country western club) in my teens and never felt anything but safe. i'm not sure if there are any parts i wouldn't feel safe walking at night, and i'm a white girl. i'm scared of east st louis, too, but i still drive through to get to the casino.
collinsville does border fairmont city (also called state park) and going that direction things do start getting sketchy.
