We are planning a weekend trip to St. Louis to surprise our boys with a couple of Cardinals baseball games. I was wondering on what the best recommendation was for a hotel? I checked the ones on the Cardinals website, and it looks like we can stay for about $176 / night and be within walking distance. I was just wondering if there were any in the suburbs that would be cheaper but still have a shuttle to the games? Thanks so much!

I don't know about specific hotels, but the MetroLink runs to the stadium so any hotel near either line will get you there. I'm not sure if you'd save enough money to really be worth sacrificing time and convenience, unless there are other attractions as well (a local family-friendly attraction or whatever). Depends on exactly when you're staying and what prices you can get, I guess.

There's also the Redbird Express, which picks up in Fairview Heights, IL. That's pretty far from Lambert Airport, if you're flying in.

The westin is very nice and across the street from the stadium. You might also checkout the hotels by the Galleria Mall in Brentwood (Homewood Suites, Residence Inn), as well as the SpringHill Suites by Hanley Station-- Either would be excellent for getting back and forth to Busch Stadium using the Metrolink as they are all right next to a station. The Galleria is a nice mall too in case you like shopping.

I've been to the Westin. Pretty nice. It's right there.

Yikes, I'd never pay that much money. Name your own price on priceline, all the hotels that are 4 stars downtown are good and you'll save a bunch of money.

Yeah, we were looking more in the $100 range than in the $400 range, although staying downtown would be fun. We found a couple hotels near the airport that are near the MetroLink. Is it safe to ride it to and from the stadium?

MetroLink is safe, especially with a ton of Cards fans filling the trains and stations.

I would definitely try Priceline for a hotel downtown, though, just in case it works for you.

Don't stay near the airport. There's nothing to do around there. Metro is perfectly safe though.

On kayak I was finding Westin prices at $180-something per night. You should be able to find a decent enough hotel downtown for about $100 a night. It will be far more interesting being downtown.

Union Station is a marriott property I think. We stayed there a couple years ago and it's right by metrolink as well.
