Just like the title says. My wife and I are going out on a date, what are some of the best local establishments for dinner. Nothing expensive (not tonight at least) but I'm willing to take suggestions. This could make a great sticky to compile a list of great local restaurants...also, location isn't that big of a deal. We're centrally located, so I'm willing to go anywhere from St. Charles to Downtown.

Open for any type of food as well. Let the suggestions flow!

Tapas seems to work well for date nights although the prices can be high depending on the place and the beverages. Have you tried Momo's down in U City (North and South at Delmar)?

Try Baba Restaurant at 10276 Page.

Nothing fancy.

Order a Chicken Charga Turbo with Nan, and both of you won't be able to finish it. Get a to go box.

About $15.00 total tab. No Alcohol is served though.

Joyia - Home

The Block is great also - locations in Webster Groves and the CWE

These are some places I've enjoyed going with my wife (all moderately priced) -

Grbic (in South City) for Bosnian food

King & I (on S. Grand) for Thai

The Scottish Arms (CWE): almost a 'gourmet' Scottish pub

West End Grill and Pub (CWE): American grill; awesome mussels (don't go Monday nights for a quiet date night; it's trivia night and will make the atmosphere less date-y)

Dressels (CWE): American

Baida (S. Grand) for Moroccan

PW Pizza (near Downtown): best pizza in STL!

One of my favorite date nights: 1111 Mississippi for dinner, Bailey's chocolate bar for dessert down the street. Probably on the more expensive side of reasonably priced.

I like the patio at Robust Wine Bar in Webster Groves too. The location downtown is new to me and I haven't checked it out.

You've left things wide open so here are some diverse ideas:

Olio -- wine bar and small plates near Tower Grove Park. An amazing reno of an old gas station. Everything is top quality from the cutlery to the food. Interesting wines and beers, friendly and helpful staff.

5 Star -- Clayton. If you want a more casual night. They've opened up in Kirkwood, too. Great burgers and great beers. It gets pretty damn loud, however, so maybe sit outside if the weather is nice.

Stellina-South City. Handmade pasta changes by the day and they also make some protein-centric entrees on the higher end of the price scale (think upper $20s). The pasta is quite affordable. After dinner, go across the street for some very good snow cones.

Gian Tony's or Favazza's. If you want an old-school Italian-American Hill experience where the food doesn't suck and is also reasonably priced. Sit on the patio at Milo's for a drink afterwards if you can get there before 10.

Lorenzo's. If you want that Hill experience but with a slightly more northern-Italian inspired approach. Same advice about Milo's.

Water House in Maplewood. A small place with some great, great cocktails. Try to sit on the couch in the bay window. Hardly gets any press for some reason. The food is pretty good, too, although not great. I know you asked about food but I couldn't help it.

Anthony's-Downtown. From the same kitchen as Tony's--yes, that Tony's. Entrees in the high teens to low twenties. Impeccable service. The interior design in this small space is incredible, too.

801 Chophouse in Clayton now has $1 oysters at happy hour and $2 shrimp. That sounds like a great deal.

DeMun Oyster Bar in Clayton. Speaking of oysters, they get the best here. You can keep things cheaper with the other food they serve. On one of the most charming streets in the area. After dinner you can walk down the street and have a drink at Sasha's (wine or beer) or that cheesy place next door, Jimmy's, for something harder. Just don't order red wine at Sasha's. It is served too warm.

I have many more ideas for higher priced places.
