Hi,

I am a new poster here. My wife and I are thinking of moving out from the Central West End and buying a place but would like to live close to it. I read some posts from few years ago on this forum that the Debaliviere area was overall nice to live in but there were still some petty crimes and people often did not feel safe walking around at night (even close to Metro stop). Have things gotten better over time or are they still largely the same compared to five years ago with regards to safety? Thanks for your opinions!

Yes, DeBaliviere is an overall nice place to live. It runs the gamut from apartments, houses, and mansions and is populated by a mix of Wash U students, middle class families, and old money. It's also probably the quietest neighborhood in the Central Corridor, but situated right in between the Loop and the CWE. The only part that I'd say is not safe is at the very northern edge along Delmar. I'm also not sure if I'd feel totally safe walking around the Metro station area after dark either. But besides that I would have no problem living in DeBaliviere.

I was walking through the area today. It seems different from what it was 20 years ago. I didn't feel in danger walking through the area to my friends place on Delmar.

I walk through the area about 4 times over the last 2 years and each time the neighborhood look better and better. I would move there if I had a chance.
