I accepted a job in St. Louis and will be making the morning commute from Shiloh IL. I've heard mixed reviews in regards to the traffic in the morning on 64 from IL to MO. I was told that traffic isn't backed up if you start work later in the mornings like 8:30 or 9:00am. Is there any truth to this? Or will traffic be backed up like it is earlier in the morning?

Take the metro link if possible you will be much less stressed when you get to work.

The bridge and traffic can be backed up past exit 4 in Illinois around 6am at times, depends on the day and what is going on.
The drive home can be just as bad depending on the St. Louis Cardinals game schedule.

Oops, exit 4 is coming from the other direction.

At any rate the traffic is still terrible until around 10am or so.

Thanks for the response. Metro link is definitely an option so I'll check into that. There will be times where I will have to make the drive so I'll just have to leave early enough to account for the traffic. Glad you mentioned the Cardinals schedule;I wasn't factoring that in for the ride home.

I respectfully disagree... I never found it to be that bad when I did it. It's been a while since then and last time I was in St. Louis there was a bit of construction on 64 in IL, but there's also a new bridge now. Where are you headed on the MO side? As for sports events, only a little extra time getting in/out of downtown, nothing to really stress about.

As I say this I suppose it's all relative, so where are you from/what is your view of "heavy traffic"?

You can pick the metro link up in Shiloh but if you really wanted to drive closer you could park at the casino in East St Louis and catch the metro link there.

You will find the more you use the metro link the more you will like it and the convenience it gives you without having to find parking in St Louis.

We always take the metro link when going to St Louis, you may have to transfer to a bus or walk a bit but it is still worth taking it.

Don't forget about the Football games and the Hockey Games as well. I'm not sure where those are located though because we do not partake in either sport or going to those games. A bit more research can give you those details.

PS ~~ our daughter and son in law have a house for sale.....LOL

I have a few co-workers who live in the Shiloh/Belleville area and their morning commutes aren't terrible...about 30-35 minutes to the brewery. Leaving in the early afternoon (3pm-4pm) has more traffic attempting to merge back onto I-64 East bound, plus dealing with the traffic from the never ending construction project through East St. Louis.
