One of my favorite restaurants has closed for good. I haven't been there in a while, but we decided to go there for lunch while up for Christmas and it was closed. I'm talking about Rossino's on Sarah St.

Found this person who blogged about it:

http://tobybelt.blogspot.com/2006/04...estaurant.html

Anyone else here ever been there?

While up in St. Louis we did manage to buy a couple of pounds of provel cheese and some IMO's pizza sauce and salad dressing to eat here in Nashville. We made a pizza today for lunch, and even though we couldn't replicate the really really thin crust, it was still excellent.

We also bought some gooey butter cake. My fiance had a piece when we got back to Nashville and absolutely loved it.

Oh how I miss St. Louis exclusive foods.....

Another weird thing they sell in Missouri but not in Tennessee is Mr. Pibb Zero.
We like that too.

Loved that restaurant, sorry to hear it closed! I would kill to get my hands on some provel, wish I could find a mail-order source.
I have managed to make most of the SL foods I miss so much, but cannot get my hands on any Mo wines. I brought home 3 cases last time, but it is all gone, thank goodness troopers didnt stop me, they would have thought I was a bootleggerLOL!

We had that same problem in Texas for 14 years! Luckily, we made trips to the Bootheel to visit family yearly and stocked up at the Super Wal-Mart nearby. Now they ship to TX, but not to TN, I see.

If you find a good grocery or liquor store, they can possibly order some for you--not sure how much you'd have to get through them but one of the higher end stores said they could do that once when we inquired if they carried Stone Hill (they didn't). May be worth a try!

Favorite pizza in St. Louis is La Pizza on Delmar, and no it isn't St. Louis pizza. But all pizza is good pizza.

I remember an ice cream shop called Velvet Freeze. There was one on Arsenal in S. St. Louis. I remember a few out in the suburbs too.

Best sandwich IMO.... Amaghetti's on the hill.

I was at Rossinos the last week they were open. It's been closed for over a year now. I've gone there since a date showed it to me back in the late '60s. I worked for 30 years just down the street from the place so I went there for lunch a lot and took my kids there often.

I remember taking my mother there in like '68 to show her "my find" as she always loved Perentis. We went down the stairs into it, she said she used to go there when she was young in the '40s and it WAS Perentis. That's where the first pizza in St. Louis was served. Rossinos was the only place I know that the small and large to go pizza's were the same size because they only had one size box.

You had to bring it up, man I miss their pepercini pizza and the great salad.....Oh, and always flat soda.
