I read in the STL paper late last year that there is a company buying up property everywhere on the north side, and just letting the property just fall down, there was a big stink about it, anyone else hear about this?

What town is that? I have been home a lot, but not out in the small towns like I used to do.

Yes, but that website focuses on the areas of town that have been abandoned, trashed, and burned down. It is virtually page after page of building that are falling down.
The sections of the city that are safe, well maintained, and historic (most of South St. Louis) are not represented well on that website. I would hate to think of anyone looking at that site and thinking that it represents what most of the neighborhoods of St. Louis look like.

Poplar Bluff. You've probably never heard of it. The main part of town is mostly new buildings, commercially anyway. The old commercial buildings still exist, but they're not on the main drag. Anybody just driving through the city would never know they were there unless they specifically went to the old part of town.

Yes. I don't think it's really clear what for. I've heard a lot of opposition to it.

I don't know how far from the city you're willing to live but Historic St. Charles has some beautiful old homes and several Catholic schools are close by: St. Peters school, Borromeo, and Academy of the Sacred Heart. St. Peters and Borromeo are parochial and have gorgeous old churches, Academy of the Sacred Heart is private and has an extensive history as well. The historic area is close to the Missouri riverfront and Main Street (lots of shops and restaurants), the Foundry art center, and easily accessible to hwy 370 and interstate 70. I think the homes would be in your price range. When you do a home search, enter zip code 63301. This should narrow it to the city of St. Charles. THen you can sift through and find the older homes. Good luck!

My mothers family is from there, I lived there for 3 years, at least in the summer, while I was going to school, yup, its falling down, was there 2 years ago! Theres not many places in SEMO that I am not familiar with. If you think PB is bad, you should see some of the smaller towns in Butler County, just a shame.

We go to the Bluff probably once a week. My dog also has an appointment with Doctor Hicks next week. I have a lot of family in Piedmont, also.
