Thanks for the info. My thread seems to have been hijacked by people posting useless info that has nothing to do with my original question. I appreciate you sticking to the topic.

Jeez, I would think if you are moving to the state you would be interested in it as a whole, or do you not plan on venturing out side the city limits?
Look up the "useless" places that have been mentioned, you might learn something more about the fabulous state of Mo than you would have by just asking your initial question.

Catholic schools are in abudance in south/southwest city and a majority of the kids living here attend them. You'll find mostly red brick homes, some frame, from the 1910's-1950's. For your price point and needs, I would look at Southampton, Lindenwood or St. Louis Hills neighborhoods (63109/63139). YOu can google for more information. St. Joan of Arc and St. Katherine Drexel are both excellent Catholic schools in south city. If you're planning on going private school anyway, I would look at the city. Lower prices and property taxes, great community, and close to everything. HTH.

I Can't believe no one mentioned Old Town Florissant, which contains some of the oldest buildings in all of St. Louis ( Casa Alvarez circe 1790 as just one example) and the oldest church west of the Mississippi ( St. Ferdinand Shrine), and a still very strong Catholic parish ( Sacred Heart) right in the middle of the historic district. List of More historic structures in Florissant.
