I will be traveling to work and was wondering if any buses in particular were dangerous at specific times?

Is the North Hanley Station dangerous at any point in the day?

Thank you so much!

My grandparents lived in Charlack for many years, and so I took the train to and from North Hanely countless times since they built the metrolink. I have never had any trouble night or day.

There was recently a shooting at this station, but I was pretty surprised to hear about it, and I feel like it was an isolated incident. Security was also increased afterwards.

I have never taken the bus from here, but I don't imagine it's any different.

Brings back memories. When I was a teenager my grandparents would drop us off at North Hanely and then we'd take the train down Union Station and hang out. Back when it was still nice.

Seems the issues in the news recently have been at the two UMSL stops before it. It's been a few years, but I never had any problems at North Hanley when I would take the Metrolink to work.

Here's the thing - there's been a slight uptick of Metrolink incidents recently, but if you do the math on riders per day versus actual incidents, it's a pin drop in an ocean. It's nothing. Incidents can happen anywhere, at any time. Be aware of your surroundings and don't be a douche to someone so as to cause them to want to "retaliate".

None of the Metrolink stops are in gangland, not even the East St. Louis stop. The ESL stop is in the Casino Queen parking lot and I've been there many times without an incident. The news loves to promote fear. Fear of the Metrolink is the newest fad but it's unwarranted.

^ I'm referring to the guy that got shot at North Hanley in April. Thankfully he was only wounded, and it was 11pm. Long after the crowd is gone. Like I said though I feel like it was an isolated incident, and I've never had any trouble there.

Totally agree with Ruby. Statistically, you really don't have much to worry about.

Thank you so much. I've only heard negative stories about the public transit. It's good to know they're not the norm.

I know someone that uses the UMSL-South station to go downtown daily, and has never had any problems. The train is normally packed in both the mornings and evenings, so during peak time, especially, it should be a non-issue.

It's because of the illusion of control (or lack thereof). People die in car accidents all the time, but nobody is afraid to drive because they imagine themselves to be good drivers. In reality the mortality rate is miniscule compared to cars (about 1/67th based on 2000-09 data), despite the occasional shooting story. So driving because you're afraid of the bus would be highly irrational (yet very common).
