Should I move out of downtown?
Hello all!
I recently moved downtown STL in a loft which I rent. My lease is up in about a month and with all the news surrounding the danger of STL, it has made me reconsider renewing my lease. As I am new to the area, I was curious to know if anyone could help me out. I have considered moving to CWE, but if I decide to, I would want it to be a safer and financially smarter move. Any advice? Any particular buildings I should check out? I am mid-twenties and live with a girl my age. It is important for us to live in a vibrant fun area, but our safety is more important. Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!!

Honestly I've heard it this way and have seen it myself. If you don't mess with people they won't mess with you. Most violent crimes are committed by someone the victim knows. I've delt with the homeless and the bums near Lucas Park aka "Homeless Park" and as long as you lie to them they are just an annoyance. CWE also has its bums and homeless.

I have lived in STL all my life. I would feel more comfortable living downtown in a building with multiple people in it, than living in a house in the CWE. honestly.. the city has a few spots dotted in it that are ok, but alot of it is getting worse with each year. I would recomend if you want a house, or to move period.. get into the county.

I love downtown STL, its getting to be much safer as long as you're always alert cause anything can happen to you no matter where you are. But I dont think you should move, and def not central west or soulard. I dont know where in Downtown you live but Washington ave is a good place to look...

No.
Oh you want more feedback than that. No, downtown is fine to live in...wondering aimlessly drunk at 3 AM down dark alleys might not be the best idea, but you are fine living where you live. Any person living in any city will have to use common sense etc...St. Louis County is not considered part of the City, which is not the case in most other places...otherwise STL would have much better looking safety stats.
CWE wouldn't be much different, as it is still in the city. Both it and downtown are good places to live for someone in your demographic. Enjoy it.

Statistically speaking, downtown is very safe, and crime continues to trend downward.

Crime downtown is down like 11% this year, and down 15% from the year before that.
As long as you mind your own business and don't get involved with drugs or a gang you should be alright. Random murders often make the news, but they don't happen that often.
If you're happy in Downtown then stay there. Crime won't be better in CWE really. I wouldn't really worry about it.
And you will find homeless and bums in most major cities. They're kind of hard to get away from. They're not necessarily dangerous, though.

My wife and I really enjoy CWE. There are numerous complexes on Euclid, directly off Euclid, or a few blocks off. I would look on Laclede, W. Pine, Maryland, Lindell, etc. North of the park is decent, but not that vibrant ... in my opinion. It would be cool if the forest park north side of CWE became vibrant one day, like the forest park east side currently is.
