[quote=ajf131;9853552]Joanie's Pizzeria, in historic Soulard. Best pizza I've ever had in St. Louis.

A close second to Cicero's. Excellent ingredients.

Also Love IMO's

The most overrated food item associated with STL. The mutant cheese is good for spackling walls, and the sauce makes a nice performance additive to any combustion engine.

and Pointer's.

Pointersaurus! The only thin crust pizza I'll eat.

Just don't go to UNO's

It's Pizzeria Uno (UNO is a card game) and they actually have a pretty good deal - two regular deep dish pizzas for $21.99. There is a minority in STL that enjoys deep dish pie. Locations in Chesterfield (Olive/I-64) and Kirkwood (Lindbergh just north of I-44).

The wife likes BJs in Florissant. I thought it was the most god-awful crap I ever ate.

Holy Cow! I went there with my wife once too (she grew up in Hazelwood). I think the overwhelming blanket of cigarette smoke killed any chance of good taste. But, you have to love a place that has an original Stag Beer sign out front!

I'm with you 100% on the cigarette smoke; that's one big difference between Missouri and California restaurants. It was great to see Schlitz beer sold once again in St. Louis when I was visiting relatives there last month! No Schlitz, no Stag, no Cracker Barrel or Steak 'N Shake restaurants anywhere in California...or IMO's Pizza, which sounds OK from what everyone here says about it.

You can get Stag (I don't know why) My "yard beer" of choice is Gennessee Cream Ale. It seems that you can only find it in NY/NJ and New England. I was clad to see Yuengling available in NY. Now that Inbev/Busch basterdized Rolling Rock, its nice to see a good, cheap PA Lager becoming more available on the mass market.

Cracker Barrel is all of the Country (New York included) Good Pan cakes but when you break it down its just another Franchise Eatery.

And I'll take "Inn and Out" any day over "Steak and Shake"

Getting back to the topic of pizza in just a second, In 'N Out is a great operation! The hamburgers taste terrific, and the menu is nice and simple. There's just something about Steak 'N Shake chili that makes me hightail it to the nearest location whenever I can make it back east. Their steakburgers--you're right--are just okey-dokey compared to In 'N Out's.

I took my wife to the Halls Ferry Inn near the intersection of New Halls Ferry Rd. and Lindbergh Blvd. in Florissant back in 2006; my brother and I had great memories of their pizza when we grew up back there. Maybe they were just having a bad night, but something was off with the pizza my wife and I ate when we were there. Hopefully it's gotten back to the way it used to be in the meantime! Has anyone else eaten pizza at the Halls Ferry Inn lately?

Cracker Barrel, chain restaurant that it may be, is still a place I will not get tired of for a very, very long time! Last month I was able to go back to the Fenton location, as well as the St. Charles location. The waitress at the Fenton location even gave me a refill of raspberry lemonade in a large cardboard cup to take with me after I left, whereupon I left her a decidedly sizable tip! The young gentleman who served me at the St. Charles Cracker Barrel had impeccably good manners; you could tell dear old Mom and Dad did a very successful job in raising him!

Hey my wife just told me that Pi is smoke-free as well! Cool, I'll pop in this weekend, as long as it stays Obama free as well!

I hear you brother...when I read that it was "pro-Obama" my blood boiled. I've never heard of a pizza place endorsing a president, and it makes me re-think eating there. For goodness sakes, they named a freakin' pizza after him.

Oh, and a "large" is 12", some of them costing up to $23.

I'm sure I'll try it someday though.

In my opinion, St Louis Pizza & Wings is the best. There are about 20 or so locations in and around St. Louis. If you visit the St Louis Zoo, be sure to try the one on Hampton avenue. They have a lot of other good eats on the menu, besides just pizza and wings.

Can't say I've ever tried their food, but they must be doing well, because they put flyers in our door every week, so they can at least cover printing costs!
