In the absence of the one just recently closed down in CWE (Rossino's - - home of the very first STL PIzza), I would have to go along with Talayna's.... outstanding pizza, and affordable as well...

I called Fortel's in my hometown the other night and...holy crap....

I asked how much a 2 topping MEDIUM pizza would cost, and it was $16.50. No thanks.

I know they are high quality, because when we get it at work, I scarf it down...but my goodness, I can go to Little Caeser's half a mile away and get a large 1 topping for $5, or go to another large chain (like Domino's) who has local and national specials running concurrently. When I worked at a Domino's in a small rural town in Illinois we had awesome specials all the time, year round.

Just paid $20.00 for a large 2 topping xtra large Imo's pizza the other night. I could have ordered one of those $5.00 ones, but I didn't. To me, it's worth the extra money...well, most of the time at least! I think that I might have mentioned it before, but maybe not. If you haven't tried the Chicago style pizza at the Black Thorn Pub, you're missing something!

I think it is worth it also. Imo's uses REAL cheese and good quality meats and veggies.

Okay... As much as I love Imos Pizza, when eaten fresh at the restaurant. $20 is way too much to pay one. Actually, the best deal for their pizza is the lunch pizza. If I spend $20 for a pizza, I want it to fill me up, and their pizzas don't do it (as all St. Louis style pizzas). I like St. Louis style better than any other, but they aren't that filling. I also agree with By~Tor, Taylana's is one of my favorites, and their salads. Hmmm!

As far as salads I am obsessed with Imo's. I mean provel on anything is going to be good, and then they have that wonderful creamy Italian dressing (that's filled with calories no doubt!) There's nothing better.

Sleeping in Skyscrapers is on a distinguished road
Default Often overlooked, but not to be missed!

I can't believe I have not seen Ponticello's on this list. This is a St. Louis legend (been around since 1956) although it is a bit out of the way in North country (take 270 to bellefontaine north) but I gotta tell you, really great pizza unlike anything I've had before. I like the pepperoni + sausage. And try their pasta too - you will not be disappointed. Oh yeah - and if you are tired of paying rediculous over priced Imo's (nothing against their pizza, just their prices) - Ponticello's is very reasonable. Check them out at :: Welcome to Ponticellos Italian Restaurant ::
