Question How is the life on Hazelwood??

Hi,
I get a new job on Hazelwood, so I`ll moving from the caribean very soon. I need information about the city (taxes, quality of life, crime, schools, average rent). I want to rent an apartment (2 bedrooms and 1 or 2 bathrooms, not very big, but not very small).
Thanks.

Hazelwood is great, in my opinion! You could find some pretty cheap places to reside. i'll reccomend village square apartments, or knollwood apts. I'm not sure about knollwood prices, but i know Village square apts...are about $600 for 2br. 1bth...but you get a shared basement, and washer and dryer connections....and even some yard space

Overall hazelwood is not a bad area, just be careful to chose the right area within the city. the farterwest the better. lindbergh and 270 is a nice area, or Mcdonnel Blvd and 270 is not bad either....good luck, and welcome!

I'll say that Hazelwood is OK. It's not the best suburb in St. Louis in terms of crime, schools or activities, but it's no where near the worst either.

I only work in Hazelwood, don't live there, but I can say that I like my job there (I am a teacher at Hazelwood West High). Try your hardest to be in the western part, as pp stated. There are actually some very nice, affordable places--good luck!

I lived in Hazelwood until about 12 years ago and still visit there often. The city in general has gotten worse than what I remember it being then (although I was only 11). As others suggest, it probably would be better to stay farther west if you're in that area. I lived in a house sort of between Village Square and Hazelwood West HS and Armstrong Elementary (my elementary school).

The area near the Mills Mall seems pretty decent still, which is off 370 and close to St. Charles. That's the area I visit most frequently.

I hear people keep saying look towards western Hazelwood. What's so bad about eastern Hazelwood?

I lived in Hazelwood during the mid-1970s, and am more familiar with Florissant, where I lived until the mid-1980s. Only things I can think of are that eastern Hazelwood may be considered more industrial and less residential (closer to Boeing and old Ford plants), and maybe there's more crime in the eastern part of Hazelwood. Admittedly speculation on my part, so I'll have to let others who are more familiar with present-day Hazelwood share their thoughts.

I'd say two things: Crime is generally higher, but even more so, Hazelwood East is one of the toughest and worst schools in the St. Louis 'burbs. I'd say it and Riverview Gardens are about on equal footing, and they're both simply awful schools (with a considerable amount of violence to boot)
