I would like to live in a house like this some day.

I could never afford it, though.

The gunman is dead as well.

I know it seems like all we hear is bad news, but I thought this was important enough to post.

Apparently the local news is reporting 6 now dead.

What a beautiful home. i bit too big for my needs personally, but truly gorgeous and in a wonderful part of the city!

What i am in awe of is that it's only $800k. I mean that's a lot more money than I'll ever have, but if you wanted that house in a comparable neighborhood in Chicago you'd be lucky to pick it up under 2.5 million. Hell bungalows in most of Chicago start in the 500s!

Try buying the same home in San Diego or Boston for that matter.

I know! As a kid I though that if you spent one million dollars on a house it would be a mansion, and in much of the U.S. that's just not the case. In San Diego 1 mil. gets ya a starter home!!

I was in Carmel CA near Clint Eastwood’s restaurant 2 years ago and saw a little clapboard 3 room house on a postage stamp sized lot with a price tag of $1,000,000.

That same house goes for $35K in my hometown. As Lake Junkie will attest it's all about location!

I just can't figure out how anyone can afford to buy at house at those prices.

Default Looking For A Good Shade Tree Mechanic

Yesterday I took my car into the shop to get the oil changed and the tires rotated and the guy at the shop told me that my brake pads were getting a bit worn and that he would be happy to replace them, along with a new rotors which I don't think that it needs - it only has 51,000 miles on it, for a mere $247.00!

Well, my buddy who used to do this stuff for me is getting tired of getting dirty, so I'm in search of a good shade tree mechanic.

Anybody know anybody who can do this sort of stuff? I've got a great regular shop out in St. Charles for the bigger stuff, so I'm not interested in any regular car repair shops. What I'm looking for is somebody who can swap out brake pads or maybe even replace a ball joint, etc.

Please let me know.
