Default How far downtown has come

Apparently Escape From New York (1981) was shot in downtown, since it looked so rundown and deserted. I'm glad it looks a lot better today. I plan on watching Escape From New York if I get the chance.

Anybody who has seen it feel free to comment. Apparently another is being shot in 2009. Where should they shoot that one?

Also, I heard there was a decent-sized fire in East St. Louis in 1974. Can anybody tell me anything about it? Thanks.

There have been a number of films shot there since 1981. A recent one was a feature called "Bill"

I think it was just the bridge scene in Escape From New York that was filmed at the old Chain of Rocks Bridge. Perfect location. That old bridge always gave me the creeps.

That was a damn good movie.

As far as the East St. Louis fire back in the 70's, I heard about that and it was big. Property damages were upwards of 50 dollars

You know, it's true...homes are worth next to nothing in East St Louis, but I think there are a lot of honest, hard working people there that refuse to be forced out by the trash. That's what I assume when I pass a mid-60s man in a well-taken-care-of vehicle getting off the ESL exit, any way.

That was kind of a crappy thing to write. Nothing like kicking people when they're down.

Parts of the movie were shot in midtown, not downtown. The old warehouses are very similar to NY City's.

If you lived there it probably wouldn't matter how much of a sense of humor you had, it wouldn't be funny.

I'll sell you a soul for a dollar.
