Holly Hills Information Please?
Good afternoon all
We're looking at a home in Holly Hills right on Grand and wanted to inquire about the tolerance level for the LGBT members.
I would hate to purchase a house in the area only to alienate neighbors and such.
Does anyone know if Holly Hills is gay friendly?
Thanks,
~Kitty

I think you'll be fine in most of the city, Holly Hills shouldn't be an exception. I know the Central West End is kind of the epicenter of the LGBT scene in StL, but I've known LGBTers who lived in just about every area of the city without problem.

Ya. As long as you're respectful to your neighbors I wouldn't expect any problems, althought that's the general rule for anybody. I've heard the Central West End has a higher concentration of gays, but just about any of the areas in the city should be fine.
Unfortunately, I can't say the same for my little town of 400 downhere, but I live 3 hours from St. Louis.
You should be fine in St. Louis. Welcome to the city!
By the way, you'll love the weather!

Hey STLCARDSBLUES1989
Just noticed your post and was curious where you were from. I was born and raised about 3 hours to the south of STL. Born in Cape Girardeau and lived near Advance. I know what ya mean about no tolerance down there. I moved out of there to STL right after high school and never looked back except to visit my folks. Give me a holler if ya like.

I could think of some areas that might be open, but as was mentioned above, the city is pretty tolerant throughout.

I've lived in Holly Hills for about 15 years and find it a tolerant, progressive neighborhood. Lots of Priuses and Obama yard signs. I know this is probably too late to reassure you, but in case someone else chances by...
Whups--I just discovered you meant Holly Hills in St. Louis. I'm in Denver. My bad.

Hi, Kitty -
I know Tower Grove South/Tower Grove Heights is VERY LGBT friendly. Have you also considered that area (just up Grand a couple of miles)?
Holly Hills seems a little more 'suburbany;' i.e., people may keep more to themselves because it's not as walkable as Tower Grove South/Heights.
It seems the more south in St. Louis City one goes, the more white and conservative it gets, FWIW. Just an observation, not a criticism.

I've never known anyone in the STL area to ignore or dislike their neighbors due to their sexuality. My 82 year old catholic neighbor told me that the former tenants in the home we live in were gay, and she said they were like her honorary children.
