Default More females than males in STL

I was bored so I was on city-data looking at various areas of STL on both sides of the river, and the cities I checked were 52-54% female. I wonder why. It's strange that so many areas of a metro would have the same demographic like that.

The closest margins between them I've seen are in:
Wildwood:
Males: 16,194 (49.2%)Females: 16,690 (50.8%)
And St. Charles
Males: 29,592 (49.1%)Females: 30,729 (50.9%)
And O'fallon, MO
Males: 22,772 (49.3%)Females: 23,397 (50.7%)
And Maryland Heights
Males: 12,729 (49.4%)Females: 13,027 (50.6%)
Maplewood
Males: 4,605 (49.9%)Females: 4,623 (50.1%)

But some places, like Richmond Heights, have a further margin between sexes.
Males: 4,428 (46.1%)Females: 5,174 (53.9%)
Kirkwood
Males: 12,485 (45.7%)Females: 14,839 (54.3%)
University City
Males: 17,103 (45.7%)Females: 20,325 (54.3%)
Shrewsbury
Males: 2,931 (44.1%)Females: 3,713 (55.9%)

Edwardsville
Males: 10,031 (46.7%)Females: 11,460 (53.3%)
Alton, IL
Males: 14,309 (46.9%)Females: 16,187 (53.1%)

The only place I found with more men than women was Clayton
Males: 6,427 (50.1%)Females: 6,398 (49.9%)

St. Louis city overall:
Males: 163,567 (47.0%)Females: 184,622 (53.0%)

I wonder why this difference in the sexes exists pretty much all over the city?

Women tend to live longer.

Areas that have been developed for some time will have a larger number of senior citizens. There are far more female senior citizens than male senior citizens.

Areas that are newly developed tend to have less senior citizens, and thus a more equal ratio of males to females.
