Default Golden Triangle

Just read Forbes' list of most affordable rental cities. St.Louis came in 9th I think.

In description it said most new rental construction would be in the "golden triangle". Anybody know what the "golden triangle" consists of?

From wikipedia:

The Golden Triangle is a region of Saint Charles County, Missouri, with Route 94 forming the east side; Interstate 70 the north; and U.S. Route 40 and U.S. Route 61 the south. The region has been the site of rapid development since the 1980s. Cities found within the Golden Triangle include St. Charles, St. Peters, O'Fallon, Lake St. Louis, Dardenne Prairie, Cottleville, and Weldon Spring

I've never in my whole life heard it called this (and I grew up there!) but I guess it is.

I have, but only a few times. I remember when there wasn't anything between Lake St. Louis and Clarkson Rd/Olive Blvd on Highway 40.

I heard it the entire time I lived in MO. We lived just off Highway K in O'Fallon for 6 months, then moved to Dardenne Prairie for the remainder of our time in Missouri. I would imagine that the crown jewel of the golden triangle would be Winghaven (which we referred to as STEPFORD Try as we might, we just could not acclimate ourselves to subdivision life, indentures and restrictive covenants...

"Welcome to the City of Dardenne Prairie, the heart of the golden triangle in St. Charles County." from the website City of Dardenne Prairie Missouri (city???)

I've heard of it, but only from Forbes (that same list actually). I've never heard a St. Louisan or anybody around here call it the golden triangle. If I asked most people about the Golden Triangle in St. Louis they'd really have no idea, or at least no defined knowledge, of what the heck I was talking about.

Thanks for the respones. "Golden Triangle" sounded like a pretty trumped up reference. I guess it is.

Have relatives that live in some of that area. Can't say it appealed to me much. But then I haven't seen a lot of it.

For what it offers (new, relatively cheap homes with above average schools perfect for first-time home buyers or people who are afraid of anything east of 270) it's perfect. If you like family-run businesses, esp. restaurants, older tree-lined streets and architectural interest and have money to spend, the area doesn't offer a lot.

To me "the golden triangle" (honestly never heard it called that) is blah. just makes me shake my head everytime im out there, again just my opinion i know others who love it. yes the crime is low, schools are decent, but the houses although big lack in the architecture and quality area. Way too much vinyl used, they don't build houses like they used to. im very interested to see what this area will look like in about 30 years. I have a feeling it won't be pretty, because as people continue moving west in the name of sprawl and white flight STChar. Co. will be the next place hard hit. we shall see though.

People can't move west forever, esp. not as gas prices rise exponentially.

Also, this area is very broad and does include some magnificently beautiful old houses in the area around Main Street St. Charles. My mom's ex used to live in this beautiful million dollar historical home on 6th street that would make your breath catch. I encourage anyone who hasn't explored that area to do so.

There's also plenty of older brick homes in that area that look just like those in older parts of the St. Louis area. There have been a lot of flips of these in the last few years.

Much of the rest- including the 70s split level type neighborhood I grew up in- is blah blah blah, but it enabled many St. Louisians to do something they might not have been able to do otherwise- own a home.

oh yeah no doubt, im not really including st. charles city in my anaylysis. i love historic st. charles, and even parts of St. Peters. The part that is blah to me is O'Fallon, Dardenne, etc. Nice areas for others, but just not for me.

But if the housing market improves i wouldnt be surprised if westward expansion continues. For example areas like Foristell and Warrenton are trying to build up and be the next "hot spots" Wentzville is already about to explode.
