Garth Ave - Is this a good area to buy?
I am looking for a house to buy in St Louis and looked at a house on Garth Ave, I believe it was on the east end of the street. Is this a relatively decent area to live in? Any insight would be appreciated!

Surrounded by a lot of industry on one side and some of the more dangerous areas of the city, it's not a good neighborhood.
If you don't mind sharing how much is the property? I can't imagine it's worth hardly anything.

It's listed at $12,000! That's what caught my attention! The house is actually in good condition too. Figured there must be a reason! I also looked at one on Lord Drive, one on Helen Ave and one on Saloma Ave. Any thoughts on those?

Is Lord in Castle Point? I'd stay away from there, we've already talked about that. Are these foreclosures your looking at I assume? None of them are in great areas. The one on Helen, is that Jennings? Thats probably the best area of the ones your looking at, but not a great area.

Yes, they're foreclosures. I thought I'd give it a try! I really appreciate all your help.

Depends which one were talking about. The property on Lord is a bad bad bad area, no way around it. I would consider the property on Helen, but understand it probably isn't ever going to appreciate very well.
I've mentioned this before but one of my closest friends grew up near there, and nothing particularly bad ever happened to her, but the school is abysmal (Riverview Gardens) and kids are exposed to a lot of stuff at a very young age. Even if you have the greatest parents in the world, when your friends parents aren't you'll see a lot of stuff I never saw as a kid. She also struggled because as a white girl she was in a major minority, which is hard on any teenager.
My school was quite the opposite, where any blacks would be minorities. I really hope I can find away to send my kids to a school that has more of a natural make-up.
