Teardowns in St. Louis area
This came up in another thread and wanted to see if anyone had, not only opinions on it, but also knowledge of specific areas it's happening.
I know there are several houses in a subdivision off Mason near the Bellrieve Cemetery where this happening- My mom grew up there and it's pretty gross to see these ugly McMansions springing up it what used to be a cute quiet old neighborhood.

It wasn't for a McMansion...but rather a real mansion...but I just visited a home off of Olive (near Dielman??) where they tore down two somewhat modest ranch homes and built a huge!!! 8,000 - 10,000 sq ft mansion. Only saw the outside, but it was VERY nice! I'll look at a map and see if I can pin point it for you.

Unfortunately a lot of St. Louis homes are being lost to new development.
But there is some rehab going on.

Yea there should be a crap load more though!
I kept telling people that we should be like screw Charleston, SC. We have a ****load more of historical architecture than them. St. Louis could really be a tourist destination if we cleaned up the city, got rid of that 500 dollar loss limit, and got federal funding for massive rehabilitation. I think most people are just not aware of how many historical neighborhoods St. Louis has. We have miles and miles of 19th century and early 20th century architecture that would sale for millions on the East Coast or Charleston for that matter. The politicians in Missouri just don't know how to sell the city of St. Louis or the region for that matter.
