It appears more folks are leaving than arriving:

Kind of a bummer. It didn't seem that bad when I visited last year from Tempe. It looked a little rugged and weathered in spots, but I met some dynamic young transplants that want change.

It's a shame we can't change the climate (that is a big factor), but there must be palpable solutions for the crime, lack of nightlife, social amenities, etc....

Many MSA's that are growing faster then St. Louis have higher crime rates, doesn't compare with nightlife and have less social amenities?

St. Louis does ok for its MSA size.

Since when did St. Louis lack nightlife and social amenities? The losses coming out of the Metro East are also more Illinois' fault than St. Louis'. This whole two years without a budget has pistol whipped the entire state of Illinois, including Chicagoland. Additionally, the city proper has been shrinking for 60 plus years. So that isn't exactly news.

True. Isn't new news at all. The growth is in places like St. Charles County and parts of the metro east. Places in SWMO like near Springfield have been having a lot of growth, but that is more the sunbelt though compared to stl.

West County and St Charles County are growing like crazy. I was there recently and couldn't believe how much it's growing considering the metro as a whole is not growing much. Columbia will be a suburb before long!

The metro isn't growing, but it is hollowing out and migrating outward. This is a bad thing for the region, financially.
