Poor people typically do not buy many $4-$5 cups of coffee. You also don't see many designer handbag stores in rough areas. Coincidence?

what would it be like if one of those hipsterish coffee shops opened in east st louis or the north side on the rougher parts? think of it, the hipsters could reinvent the north and east rough parts......I wonder when in the future it will happen, you predict this also?

Excellent point! You also wont find many grocery stores. FOOD DESERTS are common in poor neighborhoods.

Hipster coffee shops, artists galleries and the like are usually the first things to go into neighborhoods when gentrification starts. Prices go up.

Gentrification drives out the poor people, who would no longer be able to afford to live there.

well, for that matter, we could just decorate the coffee shops with bars on the windows and doors so the chances of getting robbed goes down. besides, black bars on windows and doors with a bit of graffiti on the buildings are a beautiful site! it makes the area look so....so.... tranquil, and safe and anything but dangerous and high crime filled.

Poor people have less money than other people. I hope this insight, which is my gift to you, helps you make sense of the world around you.

"Give me a T, give me an R, give me an O-L-L. What does it spell?"
