Bicycling Near St. Louis
Well, I got the bicycle... a really nice Motobacane 600 HT mountain bike....the day after I torn my rotator cuff.....I couldn't ride it for the first week, but eventually the pain went away enough to manage it, so we took the bikes and went down to a buddy's cabin on the Current River near Ellsinore. Good times were had by all!
Anyway, this got me thinking....if you only had the next two weeks before you had to go under the knife, where would you go riding?
We took the dog and went walking out at Lost Valley and that's one of the places, we're going to go. Any other suggestions?

Bobster - given that you have a mtn bike, I would guess that you are wanting more of a trail type experience? Or, do you have desire to pedal on paved paths too? About how far you wanting to get outside of StL? One quick suggestion would be the tailing piles and paths near Bonne Terre & Farmington - esp. the St Joseph State Park; I think that there are 10-15 miles there... and then ya have Hawn and a few others nearby too. Of course, there is the Katy coursing through wine country and the MO River bottoms. Durn it! You're making me curse this cold wet weather even more... I really want to get on my bicycle, and RIDE!!! I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike,,, I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike...

Illinois has some great biking areas, especially the Confluence Trail and the Great River Road Trail along the Mississippi River.
Here is a map of local trails.

Bobster -- If you are looking for an easy ride while the "cuff" is in recovery, come across the river and check out the bike trails. I suggest you "put in" somewhere on the SIUE campus. Go here: http://www.gorctrails.com/images/maps/siue.pdf to check out the trails.
Currently in upper Michigan, and from what I understand, I'll be coming home to a lot of wet. Hope the trails are a-okay for you, and let's keep our fingers crossed for a great Spring for biking, hiking and gardening!

The sun has broken out today! YEAH!!! Thanks for the heads up. To answer the question about trails or paths...I was more interested in the trails, but the shoulder is making me reconsider this. I'll hit the links that you guys provided...thanks for the heads up!
