OOOHHH...the memories....
Where does one begin...
Holiday hills as a little kid, but didn't go as often as I wanted. Imagine that...
There were so many drive-ins...I mainly went to the ones on the Rock Road. Remember the Looong lines to get in ??
West roads...yep shopped there.
905 parking lot, just sat there & partied with all the other under age kids.
Cruising back and forth between Steak-n-Shake & Mcdonalds, in Bridgeton/St. Ann. My girlfriend & I must of driven around the world a few times to equal the same mileage.
ST. LOUIE LOUIE... where are you ????????????????????????????????
My boyfriend/X-Hubby had/has a '68 440 GTX . It was a odd green color with white top. We use to race in earth City, before it was really earth city. It was a good 1/4 mile stretch we would race. All the hot rods...the cuda's, road runners, nova's, GTO's... ahhhhhhh now that was some fun racing. Even the rods from Steak in St. Charles would meet there to race
All the burn outs.............. gas wasn't much back then. People never gave much thought about the price of gas. Hubby had to use premium gas, I do remember that.
Can you believe my X-hubby still has that GTX ???
His Brother also had a GTX, it was a beige color.
I remember a lime green road runner in the area at the time.
Yes...we were Mopar heads to say the least.
I remember when 270 was built.
Creve Coeur park cruising on Sundays listening to Wolfman Jack on the radio, other than that it was always K-SHE 95.
My Hubby remembers IMO'S in a gas station in Webster . He's 6 years older than I. He also was a...IS A Ted Drews fan. I grew up with Velvet Freeze...Chocolate Almond Fudge...YUM......
My Hubby tells me when he & some buddies heard B.B. KING was giving a concert at Wash U. They went. I bet that was a site to see 4 punk white boys in their jeans & t-shirts sitting on the floor in the front row, along with the african american fans dresssed to the hilt , even in top hats.
BB as always gave a great concert they said.
NWP...when it was an outdoor mall. It was great back then. They ruined that mall by inclosing it...now it's closing down. Very sad.
What about Captain 11...hey I was on his show/tv, I passed out twinkies
Corky the Clown (Cliff St James)
I could go on & on & on & on..... but I won't. YOUR WELCOME !!!
THE GOOD 'OLE DAYS...............
HAPPY HEALTHY HOWLING NEW YEAR EVERYONE

Good grief! We used to drive all the way up from Ste Genevieve to go to the racetrack in St Charles to race, then as if that wasnt enough, we would cruise over to where Earth City kinda was, and street race there! Boy, talk about a looooong time ago , it was fun! My boyfriend had a '69 SS Chevelle, bright blue metalflake, might have gone up against you and yours, Sillypup!

Our guys thought they were sooooooooooo bad. LOL !!!
Yea...all Earth city was, was a long street, where earth city expressway is now. Not one building. Down towards hwy 70 they eventually made a hotel.
Crazy party days...and nights. The good 'ole days.

Boy does this thread bring back a lot of memories for me. I grew up in St. Louis and lived there until I was 33. I didn't realize what a great city it was until I left it. I still miss it terribly but the last time I was there (2000) I couldn't believe the changes - the entire infrastructure had changed (no more 141 - I didn't know how to get around west county anymore). I currently live in southeast Florida - other than the weather and the ocean - i HATE it here. No culture whatsoever, (except in Miami and it's an hour away and a very intense drive on I-95) very expensive, and lots of rude people and con artists.
Just a couple of questions. Does anyone remember the band Fairchild? I used to love them. Also, is Two Nice Guys Pizza still around. It used to be on Manchester in Kirkwood, then it moved to Ballwin but I think someone told me it isn't there anymore. I LOVED their pizza. Also what about Pasta House, used to be called Rich and Charlies. Loved their salad. I am so sad the Parkmoor is gone - when did it close? I went to the one in Clayton.
Some of my best memories: Lacledes Landing in the 80's was THE place to go. WE'd go from one bar to the next, great music and very safe back then. Mississippi Nights. Cardinals Baseball in the 60's and the 80's was IN LOVE with Keith Hernandez. Hanging out in the Central West End in the 70's when it was just up and coming but still had great bars and restaurants. Grade school picnics at Chain of Rocks park. Concerts at Keil - saw so many great people there - The Dead, Joni Mitchell, Jackson browne, Joe Cocker, etc. The winter of I believe 1978 when the whole town got shut down for about 3 days because of a massive snowfall. One New Years Eve in the late 70's when we had both a snow and ice storm - I poured hot water on the lock of my VW bug to get in and drove to a friends party - almost NO ONE was on the road and we were sliding all over Manchester Rd. Got to the party and guess what - NO ONE WAS THERE but the people having it. I guess some people were sane but not us! Picnics in Tower Grove Park. O'Connells pub in the 70's - went there all the time - great burgers - a friend of mine worked there and my favorite professor at Webster University (then Webster College) Art Sandler used to hang out there all the time. Sad to hear he passed away suddenly recently. Great memories of Webster College actually. No air conditioning, hot as hell in the summer but such a beautiful place - very liberal, tight knit college community, Holocaust Lit classes with Harry Cargas (he's gone now as well). Parkway Central High School, smoking pot in the foyer because we'd FORGET to put the joint out. KSHE radio was THE cool station to listen - had a friend, Jim Singer who I went to high school with that became a DJ there and I believe later a producer. Going to the gay club Faces in Ill. with gay guys I worked with and used to pick out boyfriends for them in the early 80's. Ahhhh.........such bittersweet memories.

Yup, the years coincide! I remember when they built the first warehouse off I70 in Earth City, it was in the '60's...... I lived in St Charles when I was small.
Those were really good times back in the day, your post made me smile!

I was a good kid, I didn't smoke those nasty cigarettes. LOL !!!
We were all in such a hurry to get thru high school. Couldn't wait to be FREE~~~~~~~~ if only we knew then...what we know now.

What year did you graduate from Central? Both my parents went there mom in '74, dad shoulda been class of '72 but got his GED later ... both come from big families so my guess is if you went there anytime in the early to mid 70s you knew one of 'em ... actually my grandmother was an English teacher there for many many years. you probably know her too.

Man I'd completely forgotten about that tower. It was at Hampton and 40, near Deaconness hospital. It's top was missing; all that was there was a base with a tickertape-type light screen. If memory serves, the tower got hit by a tornado? That would be the very early '70s.
I grew up in the '70s so...
- Arlens Dept. store on the corner of Hampton/Chippewa. It was pretty a pretty cheap store.
- Taking the bus from Crestwood Plaza to Six Flags to ride the Screaming Eagle. My buddies and I had season passes.
- Playing Deathrace 2000 on the Admiral while it was cruising between Eads and JB Bridges.
- The old JB bridge of open steel girders.
- The scissor sharpener pushing his cart through the south side neighborhood.

Our dentist on grand ave.
Even though we lived in west county, my Mom would take me to our dentist (Dr. Sharp) on Grand Ave almost across the street from the Fox. I remember the gold lions, woolworths on the corner & a bakery where my Mom always bought me a gingerbread man.
That was the special times... I was 7 years old tops, maybe 8, can't remember, that was just tooooo long ago. At least I remember the good times.
Somethings you just forget about. You don't mean to, but the older we get more things get packed into our heads. I guess writing in a journal everyday, really is a good thing. That way we'll never forget.
