You might consider looking off 21 just south of 270...Does that area have a name?

That would be a fairly easy drive to Desoto down 21. It is also close to Saint Louis. I know there are a few apartment complexes in that area.

Okay....what's the deal with being a hoosier? I'm from Indiana and just took a promotion in the St.Louis area.I'm on this post also trying to get recommendations on nice area's to live but it looks like I need to live on the Illinois side of the river (or in Festus) and keep my mouth shut about being a Hoosier!

I have honestly only ever heard Hoosier applied to Indiana.

But apparently that's just me.

It's a St. Louis thing. Growing up I thought a hoosier was akin to "trailer trash." It has nothing to do with being from Indiana, though if you label yourself a hoosier in the area expect some raised eyebrows and a conversation might be needed to explain the situation. We don't hate people from Indiana I promise!

yes, there are plenty of rednecks in Jefferson County,(Arnold, Festus, De Soto etc.). Someone suggested some areas of St.Louis county as not being redneck, & its true, there are some great parts of St.Louis County, but you dont need to look very hard to find some trashy areas in St.Louis County either. Personally if I had a choice of what area in the STL metro area to live in, it would be the Sunset Hills , or Crestwood area. but it is a bit more expensive.
As far as the comment about the traffic being so bad travelling from Jeff County to St.Louis, its no worse than coming from St. Charles, or Eureka , or Chesterfiels, or in from the ILL side.

Imperial is very nice and growing quickly in St. Charles County.

Wow. The last time I looked at a map, Imperial was in Jefferson County. It must have exponentially grown to contact another county!

We looked at Clayton but I seemed like a bad Parody of the Snobs (Judge Smails) on Caddyshack. I'm originally from Newport Beach, and trust me, the people there are nowhere near the snobs that you see in Clayton.

we lucked out and bought a house in Lake Saint Louis. its about as nice as it gets. Since there are a lot of transplants like myself, the mindset is a bit more diverse and open to new ideas. Now if I could just avoid Interstate 70.

I still don't like Missouri in general, but living in LSL definitely lightens the suck.

On top of that LSL was just named as the 9th best place to live by Money Magazine (Best Places to Live 2009 - Top 100: City details: Lake St. Louis, MO - from MONEY Magazine)

It's a St Louis thing. "Redneck" doesn't even roll off my tongue any more unless I am talking to people from back home. You learn to say "hoosier" pretty quick around here
