Hi friends,

So I'm sure this has been asked 100's of times.. My boyfriend and I (early 30's) are looking to make the move from Chicago area to STL. We've visited many times, and every time I fall more and more in love! At first we had talked living downtown, but I think i'm looking more the surrounding neighborhoods. Tower Grove, Lafayette Park, Shaw, Benton Park, Dogtown, Soulard (but I think that's more party scene than we're looking for).. Areas like that. I'd love somewhere walkable with restaurants or shops nearby. Boyfriend doesn't drink, I do occasionally. Bar scene isn't for us anymore. A park or a lake around would be nice. We love being outdoors. Walking, biking, fishing, kayaking. Somewhere I can go and sit in the sun with coffee/wine and read my book would be lovely! No dog (yet), but we have a cat. Obviously somewhere safe where I'd feel comfortable walking around by myself (though I know to use caution and be aware of my surroundings) any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Ideally i'd like a house instead of apartment, but if there's a deck/patio/balcony then i'll be happy with either. Rent no more than $1000 a month. We both have cars, garage/parking would be great.

This is long and extensive and I appreciate anyone who is still reading and willing to help us out! Looking forward to moving to your lovely city!

Maplewood. I'm a but partial, as I have a house there. It is not technically a part of StL City, but is contiguous and otherwise indistinguishable. I can walk to the grocery, the bank, dinner, a brewery, and several parks. We have a metro rail stop, and are less than 5 minutes from 40 and Forest Park.

Take a look at Tower Grove South or Lafayette Square. Fewer options likely for the latter at that price point.
