Hotel suggestions?
Will be visiting soon for 2 nights, and want to stay in a nice hotel in the city near good restaurants and shopping, preferably within walking distance of the hotel. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

The Chase Park Plaza is your best bet.

Or, Lumiere Casino/Hotelumiere. You are not only staying at the hotel of the casino that includes bars/restaurants, but you are also on Laclede's Landing...A night time hotspot that doesn't close down until 4-5 in the morning. And if you like adult entertainment, you are only 10 minutes to the "east side."

Renaissance Grand. "An American Place" is memorable upscale dining, located in the hotel. It's also located within walking distance(right out the front door to the left) of several other choices, as well as the nightlife and shopping of Washington Ave.
Welcome to An American Place

We've stayed at the Westin Cupples Station and loved it. it's right across the street from the ballpark. That area is still pretty dead at night, but we had no problems with cabs.

Within walking distance to the Chase Park Plaza, around Euclid and Maryland, are lots of little boutiques and restaurants, from diners to high-end places.
A few blocks away at the Hospital Complex is a Metrolink station. If you take the Cross-Country line, it has a station right by the Galleria, an upscale mall, and The Boulevard complex, an urban "lifestyle" center.

Thanks!
What are some thoughts about Union Station? I've heard it's touristy, but are there good places to eat and shop nearby as well?

Union Station = awful. It's a tourist trap.
You won't find too many locals in Union station. Their stores are crap, but I think they might have a couple of decent restaurants or bars...but I don't know, I can only vouch for the stores. I used to go to the Hooters in Union Station, but it moved to Kiener Plaza (still downtown).

Union Station is a nice structure and the Hyatt Hotel is good hotel. The problems are the stores and restaurants are mostly tourist traps and there isn't much to walk to in the surrounding neighborhood. If you were coming in for an event at the Scottrade Center that'd be one thing. You can walk from there to Harry's for dinner and couple of other places over there, but not many, and it isn't in the heart of any action. However, there is a metrolink stop right there. I wouldn't rule the area out entirely, but it isn't in the center of action and Union Station itself, while interesting to see for an hour, doesn't contain a lot to keep one there for longer periods.
The Chase in the Central West End is a few miles West of downtown, with lots of restaurants, boutique shops, Forest Park, etc...all walkable. The same can be said for Renaissance Grand and Washington Ave.
Other hotels to try, ...if you like small boutique, the 4th and Olive Hilton is pretty solid as well.
